Am I the only one disgusted by the whole idea of Black Friday beginning on Thanksgiving?
For the past few years, I've listened to stories of people waiting on long lines and camping out to save a hundred dollars on electronics. You see them on the news, right? Reporters interviewing someone standing alone days before a sale even…

** It's not a road trip in our family unless it ends with a souvenir bag of puke.

This craft was not intended to be a Thanksgiving key chain. Matter-a-fact, it started off as a turkey headband. You know, those really cute turkey feathered headbands?
When I realized I didn’t have any 11×17…Continue

Happy Thanksgiving! (a few days late)
Are you exhausted? ; ) This was the first Thanksgiving I hosted and not that I didn’t know it was a lot of work but I think being pregnant with an achy back just made all of the work a *little harder! I was so sore and sleepy on black Friday but it was so worth it! The memories, the smell of Thanksgiving in our home all day, watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the comfort of being together with nowhere…Continue

Calling all moms! As moms we are no stranger to the act of giving. However, at Thanksgiving we moms tend to have a different type of challenge. The challenge of finding the balance between perfection and reality, so that Thanksgiving can be enjoyed by all, including mom. Sometimes we get too caught up in the Norman Rockwell or Martha Stewart illusion of Thanksgiving. And that is precisely what it is, an illusion. In this segment of Moms’ Timeout will be discussing ways to simplify…Continue

You likely know by now that Goatdog is generally a giant thorn in my side and that I often contemplate turning him into the main course for our Thanksgiving dinner. That being said, though, he has somehow managed to worm his wicked way into our hearts with all of his quirky little…Continue

** My ass is sure not a fan of sitting for six or more hours at a time.
** Grocery shopping on the eve of any given holiday is for masochists and crazy people.
** A giant cardboard box is the greatest toy you could give a kid.
** Comic books (ahem, "graphic novels") have completely consumed my husband.

I have so many reasons to be thankful. I am in a great place in my life and often stop and think, “Ahh, so this is why I toiled through all of that crap…because though not perfect, this life of mine has turned into a pretty great one!”
So…instead of focusing on everything I am thankful for, I will focus on the things- mostly materialistic, I know- that I’ve learned to appreciate in 2011. In no real order, these are things that I didn’t know…

I've been wanting to write a Thanksgiving post for a few days now, and I've had some trouble starting. Not because I have so little, but because I have so much. Now, if you had told me a few years ago I might have this problem, I likely wouldn't have believed you.
Because I was angry. And sad. I had lost my sister, my journalism career had ended, and all my pets died. It wasn't a good year, to say the least.
My creativity, my saving grace, disappeared. Just…Continue
