Teaching Kids About Differences Using Eggs

I thought today was a fitting day to tell the story about one of my favorite school events. When Mackenzie was in the 2nd grade, her school held an event to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Teens, Tweens and Finances

We forewarned our girls that this Christmas was not going to be a big one.  The Rooster had changed jobs halfway thru the year and my business was slower than last year. Even if that hadn’t been the case, when we saw the 13 YOs “list” it made us do a double take and realized that these kids needed a severe reality check. We “gently” advised…

Kids Who Sell Stuff… And People Who Don’t Buy

I have 3 kids which means in our time and like everyone else, we’ve sold a lot of crap. We’ve sold cookie dough, pizza making kits, wrapping paper, God awful things they considered “gifts”, magazine subscriptions and of course, Girl Scout cookies.  We are VERY lucky that the elementary school we’re at now doesn’t participate in item sales – they just ask us for pledges and donations at the beginning of the year. And then nickel and dime us the rest of the year, but that’s a different…

When my sixteen-year-old son begged to return to Cancun for a family vacation, I was not too thrilled.  Cancun was the last place I wanted to go.  We had already been to the same resort twice before.  Finally, my son mentioned practicing his Spanish and doing an extra credit report for his level three Spanish class for the 2011-201 school year.  Well, that idea sold me and my husband immediately booked our vacation to Cancun.

Off to Cancun we went.  The first night at the…

I've got #2 on the brain. Not that number two. I'm talking baby number two. It's not a coincidence because lately it seems everyone is wondering if I'll have a second baby. I find this questioning only slightly less invasive than having  my belly felt up when I was pregnant. D2 turns two in November and whenever anyone asks me how old he is, it's always…
