Safety Tips to Prevent Your Dream Pool from Becoming a Nightmare

Whether it’s a cosy hot tub, a full-sized pool or something in between, having a private place to take a dip at home is one of life’s greatest luxuries. There is little that compares to shrugging off the day’s troubles with a few relaxing laps or a good book and the gentle massage of…

I'm not angry at you

"I'm not angry with you; I just want to talk."

I find myself saying this to my son more and more often. I say it when he's gotten a bad report on the bus. I say it when he's yelled at me for reminding him to brush his teeth and he claims I didn't ask him to do that. I say it when I know he is lying to…

From joy to anger to snark

It's hard for me to look at my son now and imagine the swirling mass of hormones that he will become one day. It is equally hard for me to think about the time that he will not need me around anymore (but still want me there, like a plant). But, those days are coming, whether I like it or not. So, I guess that it is good for me to…

Embracing the dark side

The bears in my household outnumber me. They are there in the morning, facing me with their anger at the fact that the sun has risen in the sky yet again, forcing them from their slumber and making them face another day. I try to focus on my thankfulness that it is another beautiful day; I try to enjoy the morning...but why do people think that it is OK to be…

Why Dad needs to keep his voice down

I read a lot of studies about parenthood. A surprising number of them uncover changes that need to be made in the Mother's behavior, because either the study didn't cover Dads as well, or it saw Dad's behavior as not having a significant effect on the child.

So it was somewhat refreshing to find a study that…

Anger

I don't like anger. Whenever I found any person who has short tempered personality, I try to maintain a good distance with them, to not to see their anger. As I don't like to see other's anger, don't like to show my anger too. No matter how much I get angry, I don't let other's to see it. In this case, I became a good actress :) Well,…

রাগ কমে গেলে (After calming anger)

[English version has given below]

Our Next Leg - Weeks 9-11

Hello MBC'ers!  My daughter, Dylan, suffered a severe asthma attack and seizures this Mother's Day (May 13th).  She was without oxygen for quite some time and now is battling brain damage.  The focus of my blog is now on the next leg of our journey....

These last few weeks have been rough.  Other words that come to mind to describe it are shitty, unbearable, exhausting and nerve-racking.  Dylan has been dealing with seizures and brainstorming (which means she had…

Fighting Feelings

"The only way to fight a feeling is with a feeling." Rolin McCraty

I ran across this statement while reading One Thousand Gifts over the last two weeks. It stopped me in my tracks.

Feelings run so rampant these days. Look around our neighborhoods, schools, the television, etc. You'll see feeling not only in word, but in action as well.

What if we were to truly live out the statement McCraty gives us? Replacing anger with love, disappointment with contentment, anxiety…

What I Want for my Children

Argh! YOU DID WHAT?!

Yes. That's me on many an afternoon. Make that morning. OK, truth-be-told, it can happen at any moment. Today it was the crayon-covered rocker that did me in.

And despite the fact that children are not the behaviors they exhibit, I honestly have difficulty sorting the two when my impatient Aries-anger ignites.

Whew. Deep breath. Calm down. Re-focus. Now move forward.

Yes, having children who are ages 1, 3 and 5 can be challenging. But…

Hell Hath No Birthday Quite Like This One

Today is my birthday. I have reached the ripe (but not spoiling) middle age of 47. I am proud to be 47 today. I am in a good place in my life. I have two wonderful, yet challenging children. I think the challenging aspects of parenthood keep me young. I have a husband that adores me, and the feeling is mutual. I have great friends and family…and I don’t look 47. I think that is the best part of all!
