VIDEO: Best Books for Babies and Toddlers

Dear Diary,

As a child, you couldn't catch me without a book in my hand. My idea of fun was spending a Saturday at the library, checking out every hardcover I could carry. I would read to anyone who would listen, including my Cabbage Patch Kids lined up on my bed. I knew the mailman by name. I sat by the door waiting for him to deliver my monthly subscription of Highlights magazine. After I finished a chapter, I would write my own stories in a notebook. But as time passed and as I…

Put your phone down and parent

My son is sitting on my lap as I write this post. He is watching the way my fingers move across the keyboard and he is reading the words as I type them.

I try very hard to not use my phone too much in front of my son. Yes, it is very rewarding when it is my turn in a game, or I get a text message from a friend. But, he is my son, and he is much more rewarding…

What To Expect When You're Expecting Something Completely Different

When I found out I was having a boy, I cried. Not beautiful, happy tears, no. I cried ugly, horrendous tears of mourning. I cried because I was not having a girl. That's right: my baby hadn't even left my uterus, and I was already the worst mother in the world.

Before you can comment on…

How are babies made?

We were eating dinner in a Chinese restaurant when my son asked me how babies were made. I swallowed my mouthful of sweet-and-sour chicken and answered him with an age-appropriate summary of how sperm and an egg join together and then grown inside a woman's womb to make a baby.…

I'm talking to myself

My son is in his room, talking away. He is talking about exploring a cave and there is treasure in the cave and he will need to gather some weapons to fight off any monsters or dragons that are guarding the treasure. But not the pet dragon that he has - that one he will not need to fight off, because it is a guard dragon similar to the pet tigers that guard his secret lair...It is quite an elaborate setup for a game. But, the truth…

Clearance Sales for Little Boys & Girls

We should all celebrate the gift of having such charming babies. They truly make us live our lives happier than ever. Couples who recently had babies will agree to the fact that life takes a new turn after their birth. Suddenly, you realize that all you have to care about is your newborn and almost forget about your own existence.

From toddling movements to the first steps that they take, babies deserve all praise in being the apple of eyes. They should be treated the same way whether…

IMG_3516

If you’re anything like me, you probably fantasized for much of your life about having a little mini me one day.

This Is (REAL) Life

It's hard. It's messy. It's mine.

I haven't had a shower today. Or brushed my hair.  I was convinced I would make it to CrossFit at some point. And I never did. So I've been in full gym paraphernalia all day... With unbrushed hair and unbathed body.

Yes- I went to Publix like…

My Soul Feels Broken Now

This has been a very tough couple of months for me. My oldest child turned 21, my youngest turned 13, my middle child got pregnant, and my oldest is getting married. I realized I don’t have any babies anymore. They are all growing up on me. This breaks my heart. This week is the hardest so far. Alissa, my middle daughter, had her baby shower yesterday. In 5 more days, my oldest daughter Aspen, is getting married. I was talking with my girls this past weekend and I told them I am just not…
