Where are all the people?

So it is day 1 of my very first craft show and my booth is all set up....only 15 minutes past start time. A few people start walking by and looking at my items. It takes awhile before my mom and I realize these are all fellow vendors. Hmmm....will people who came here to MAKE money SPEND money too? Well, if they're anything like us, it's a definite YES. My mom is already scoping it out, Continue…

10 Things I've learned to do while breastfeeding

As moms we have a lot of responsibilities to handle. Luckily we are naturally adept at being kick-ass multi-taskers (sorry guys, you got the "I don't need to ask for directions" gene instead). I had no idea becoming a mother would equip me to juggle my duties like a well-trained circus clown. Add breastfeeding to the mix of daily activities and I've either created a masterful circus of wonder or road-side freak show.… Continue

A Watched Tooth Never Cuts

Read my blog at http://laurdoone.com

I've told pretty much everyone in the free world, but FYI, Aidan is teething.  However, this child has been teething FOREVER.  Or so it feels like.  We're pretty convinced that the top two teeth are going to come in right about at the same time because we can see the whites just behind the gum.  We've been able to see them for weeks and weeks.

Every night when I put him to bed I say "I think they're…

Changing Table Mise En Place

I love everything about cooking. I love to cook, find new recipes, watch cooking shows, etc. My brother is a chef and I love chatting with him about flavor combinations and knife skills. So, the art of preparing a meal is something I’m familiar with. I’m no culinary master, but my hubby loves my cooking so that’s what matters.

One thing about cooking that is very important (and you know this very well if you’ve been watching Worst Cooks in America) is prep work.  Before the…

My baby won't sleep!

Before I continue on with my craft show story.....keeping you all on the edge of your seat LOL.....I need to solicit advice. Why won't my baby sleep???

Here's the story, I think I was spoiled by her early on, so now I'm having trouble coping. When she was about 2 months old she started sleeping through the night - meaning 8pm to 8am.....yes, seriously. And yes, it was awesome. Then around 4 months she started waking up at about 4am, would nurse, and fall back to sleep until 8am. I thought… Continue

Tastebud Tuesday: Pumpkin Bake (baby food)

http://www.multifacetmom.com

So I was going through my recipe books, which I haven't done in awhile! I found my book "365 Foods Kids Love to Eat". As I was browsing through the categories, I came across the baby food section. This is a big deal for me, cause I'm tired of giving my 22lb 6 month old son the same boring veggies and fruit all the time! Plus it gets boring cooking the same things all the time! So I was…

What I Know (Baby Mum-Mums!)

This blog (http://vermontwhitneys.blogspot.com) is not supposed to make me out to be anything more than what I am: imperfect and constantly learning.  Even with two kids I stumble upon or discover or hear from a friend new ideas, tricks, or trades that make my day a little easier.  I found such a trick, in the baby food aisle of Target (the nearest of which is over an hour from me here...sigh...), that taught my…

In case you didn't know (or haven't seen my 365 Project picture of the day), let me tell you that Jax has moved on from just regular old board books to the more interesting (and more expensive) picture books.  This is exciting because although I'm still reading…

To Blog or Not to Blog? That is MY question....

Let's just say I am a bit overwhelmed by everything blog! I know I'm a beginner and I'm sure there is a lot to learn.  But where do I begin?

The thing of it is, I know I have information that other women would find useful.  I've been through a lot in my short life and have gained a ton of perspective.  I don't like to give up on anything, and certainly do not want to take away time from my baby.

Maybe I need some good constructive criticism or…

The Double Bugaboo is Coming...What Rock Have I Been Living Under?!

So I have been complaining for years now that Bugaboo does not make a double stroller, and then today I read on a blog that they announced the double Bugaboo Donkey in September 2010!  What rock have I been living under!  Ahhhh!

Well, the price…

Why I LOVE Infantino Puzzles

I am always looking for puzzles and games that have educational components that my soon-to-be 4 year old will also find entertaining.  One brand that I absolutely L-O-V-E is Infantino!  I knew that they made a lot of different baby items I liked, but I had no idea they made puzzles until I found one at a local discount store.  The packaging caught my eye, with its cute little yellow box with bright pictures of the puzzle pieces on the front, and an actual puzzle piece attached to the handle. … Continue

Breast is Best, But Not For Everyone

When I think of women and our relationship with each other it seems to be love/hate. In our competitive society it seems that woman longs for that friendship and understanding that only another woman can offer. Yet we give in to judgment of that same kin. This kind of relationship spreads beyond being a woman and translates into all female roles, including and especially motherhood. It seems that truly…

The Magic of Affection During Labor and Eearly Parenting

image (C) 2010 by Lesly Federici

How are you? I don't know what the weather is like where you are, but here in New Jersey there is so much snow! I am enjoying it too - it's so pretty. My son and I had a wonderful and fun snow fight while we were shoveling the driveway - a great way to connect with…

Diaper Genie II Review

So even though I mostly cloth diaper my son, I decided to get a Diaper Geni for the two other babies in my care that are in diapers... to be honest when things get busy, I just throw my son in disposables until I have time to catch up with the laundry. Don't ask me how I went so long without a diaper geni, but we'd just… Continue

The Many Faces of a Baby

I have been attempting to catch my son's elusive smile on camera for about 3 weeks now. However, each time his sweet little lips curl up, as soon as I click the button they go right into a sour puss . I've stuck to my guns and now I present for your viewing pleasure the cutest damn thing I've ever seen (and no I'm not biased!)

Unimpressed …

The Last Goodbye

On May 3rd 1992, my son Eric Miller was killed in a one car collision. He was home visiting with family in Louisiana. My family and I visited Louisiana very often. However, when my son began to insist that he spend some time in Louisiana with our family, I reluctantly agreed.

After I received the phone call telling me that my beloved, beautiful and kindhearted son was killed in a car accident; I slowly began to understand why going home was so important to him. It seemed as if I was…
