Dane celebrated his birthday earlier this month and requested I make a "Cookie with layers of chocolate." He's 9. I think we may be watching too many food…

While I was making cranberry scones with my children, a little cranberry kept prodding me to let her tell the baking story. So, in a spirit of silliness and fun, I let her. I invite you to read my guest writer's post here.
Thank you all and best regards. :-)

I’ve already mentioned that my food obsession extends from the kitchen to television and magazines. Thanks to the DVR I never miss an episode of Top Chef or The Next Iron Chef, and I love getting my Food Network, Clean Eating and Cooking Light magazines in the mail. I also often print off recipes from other blogs or the Food Network website, all of which I compile in my beloved…Continue

One way I’ve learned to get my kids excited about their adult relative’s birthdays is to get them excited about creating a healthy treat in honor of the event. The boy and girl have come to associate their father with peanut butter, their grandfather with chocolate chip cookies and their “Nana” with brownies. My parents came to visit from NJ today to celebrate my mother’s birthday, so of course the occasion called for some brownies.
If you’re looking for a good, straight-forward…Continue

When I think of the term “fake and bake,” I think of artificial tanning. I’m all about fake tanning these days since last month I became the I’ve-got-skin-cancer-and-I’m-getting-a-chunk-of-my-back-cut-out-soon Sunscreen Queen. My fake tanning isn’t going so well. I suck at applying it evenly and my legs are looking a little streaked. But, it’s better than the real thing.
But, today’s post isn’t about artificial tanning. It is about an activity I suck at almost as bad as fake…Continue

I was given the recipe of all recipes to make super fast, easy bread, and I can’t wait to share it. This bread costs almost nothing, it’s fun to bake, and so much healthier than the store-bought bread spiked with high-fructose syrup.
Forget expensive bread machines: all you need is flour, rapid rise yeast, water, salt, olive oil, and voila — bread!

So I was going through my recipe books, which I haven't done in awhile! I found my book "365 Foods Kids Love to Eat". As I was browsing through the categories, I came across the baby food section. This is a big deal for me, cause I'm tired of giving my 22lb 6 month old son the same boring veggies and fruit all the time! Plus it gets boring cooking the same things all the time! So I was…Continue

As with all families, our Christmas morning’s agenda is all about opening presents and pulling fun gifts and treats out of stockings. But before that even happens, everyone needs to hold tight until the coffee and hot chocolate drinks are made and, more importantly, that the Chelsea Buns (our Christmas morning tradition) are baked. We nibble on these wonderfully gooey, decadent Chelsea Buns that I have prepared the night and just popped in the oven that morning. They are sooooo easy to make…Continue
