Things I've Learned This Week

** Someone should come up with a Beano for brain farts.

** Motherhood is no place for migraines.

** Our water bill's gonna be $10,000 this month, thanks to my son's obsession with the hose.

** Nothing, and I do mean NOTHING, is louder than the volume of a carpool of short people.

** Digging for your keys…

Free summer activity - A Day at the Beach

If you live near the water or the beach you can save money this summer with a day at the beach. Check out this list of the top must have items for any day trip to the beach. Remember, you don’t need to pack your whole summer wardrobe and all the water accessories if you’re only going to be at the beach for less than 12 hours. So make sure you have the essentials and nothing more, you don’t want to bog yourself down with too much “stuff.”

Vacation = Relaxation?

Vacation = Relaxation?  I'm not so sure.  We have been home from vacation for 5 days, and I still don't feel "caught up".  I am really tired, still haven't put all of our laundry away, and haven't fixed my hair since we returned home.  I am however, soooo happy to be home!  It is always nice to get away, but by the end of vacation, I am always excited to return to the comfort of my own home, and ready to eat home cooked meals.  This year, we headed to Myrtle Beach for a week.  We had an…

Seashore Learning

I was born and raised in San Diego, California. (Yes, pictures like this one and that one are from that bee-u-ti-ful city.) But, in addition to my dear and loving family and friends there, it’s the ocean that holds my heart. San

Diego’s ocean simply beckons one to interact. And not…

Please Don't Pee on Me

I was sitting on my beach chair relaxing/recharging when I saw a crab poke his head out of his hidey-hole.yes""> As I watched, he snuck out of his hole, scurried down the beach, then changed direction and scurried back down his hole. He did this a couple of times and I was

intrigued. At this point, I wanted

to take a close up photo of him, so I grabbed my camera and belly crawled

towards his hole in order to get a close up picture of “Clevis”…

Vacation Redux

We were supposed to be in London this week. Actually, our vacation was to end tomorrow with a flight home, an eight-day vacation, without children, spending time with Colby exploring London, Edinburgh and the countryside of England. But you all see the news, read the

papers and have all seen the pictures of a pesky little volcano in Iceland that

continues to spew ash and lava into the air.yes""> Yep, that pesky little volcano ruined my blissful…

The Spa Who Loved Me

Eons ago I had my first spa experience in the Philippines. It was a place called The Palm Garden and it was at the penthouse of the building I worked at — I worked a few floors down for what was then a start-up magazine (now one of the established fashion magazines in the Philippines). It was all very Devil Wears Prada – so you can imagine my excitement when they needed someone to write about a spa.

Since I was just a lowly fashion assistant, I grabbed the opportunity to prove my… Continue

Are you heading to the beach for spring break? Identifying safe surf....

Have you ever been caught in a current and felt like you were out of control? When I was about 13 I spent the summer with my cousins in Los Angeles. On a trip to Santa Monica beach I vividly remember being smashed down by the surf while I was body surfing. I was twisted and turned by the waves, dragged out to sea with the sand scrapping my stomach and back. I frantically tried to get a foot-hold but it seemed forever (probably less than a minute) before I could connect my feet with the ocean… Continue

Let the kayak adventures begin!

We recently bought ourselves a 2 person Hobie Kayak with a 3rd seat option! Its perfect for our little family. We had done some research, and tried a few other brands before ultimately making the decision to buy this specific one. This Hobie "Kona" Kayak is super sturdy and a perfect fit. Living where we live, we like to be out in the ocean as much as possible. Its super fun to cruise the harbor and check out the boats and marine life with Easy. He LOVES it! I was a bit nervous at first, but… Continue

What it's all about

It's been a rough few days with seeming more lows than highs in the mix. But as usual I made it through, with some laughs and love from my babies. I thought I'd share some of the photo memories that helped soothe my frazzled nerves. This is from a family vacation in 2006 when we took a drive to the North coast with our neighbours.

Safekeeping of Your Jewelery - Part 1 - Travelling With Jewelry

h

Your personal jewelry has been acquired over your lifetime. It could be something as sentimental as your first gold chain with religious medallion, your childhood charm bracelet, diamond engagement ring or inherited antique jewelry just to name a few. Nonetheless, these pieces not only have sentimental worth, but also significant monetary value.

Over the years, designs and styles change, older pieces dating to the Victorian and Art Deco periods could be difficult to replace,… Continue

Wordless Wednesday Walkers

Since I got my new camera, I just had to go to the beach today and both walk and, of course, snap some cool photos with my new lens.

In fact, I was walking on the beach when an Earthquake hit Southern California today.

I had no idea it occurred let alone the fact I didn’t feel it.

It wasn’t…
