When we brought our son home from the hospital, we decided to have him sleep his first night in his crib in his own room. We felt so wise in our decision, believing it to be important to teach our son that he sleeps in his room and we sleep in ours.
Our son, however, decided to start cluster feeding, so I was up with him all night, holding him. …

When our cat was alive, she used to sleep in bed with us at night. I could count on her to nudge me in the middle of the night if I was snoring, crawl up next to me when she was having a bad dream and gently paw at me when she wanted me to wake up and feed her.…Continue

It can be really hard to deal with your kids when they are fussy or having a tantrum. They can grate on your nerves when they keep….on…..crying no matter what. It is definitely frustrating for me when my kids are having fussy days. Like the equivalent of waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Sometimes it is enough to just lock myself in another room for a few minutes (with them in safe places of course) while I get myself under control. All kids have small issues or big issues, but they…Continue

I wanted to say, first and foremost, thank you for taking care of my son's medical needs for his entire life. I did not attend medical school, and I'm really queasy when it comes to giving shots--*insert any and all ironic jokes here about the tattoo artist who hates needles*--so I'm…

As of today, I am very lucky with my son's bedtime routine. He and I snuggle up in his bed and read books together (he reads me one and I read him three). Then there are hugs and kisses and then the light goes off. He very rarely leaves the bedroom.…Continue

It seems as if many people are obsessed with sleep. They post about it on social media, talk about it with friends and colleagues, and continually dwell on it. However, when it comes time to lie down in the evening and finally attain that one thing they’ve been thinking about all day, it doesn’t happen.
Sleepless nights are a problem for millions of Americans, and the ramifications of this are staggering. The lack of sleep contributes to less productivity, decreased well-being,…Continue

I finally made my way over to Lowes today so I could buy the things necessary to try the Cement Block Raised Garden Bed idea I saw on Pinterest.
I wanted two beds, so I intended to buy 20 cement blocks, but I underestimated how heavy they were and how much space it would take up in the car. After grocery shopping, and making a quick trip to ToysRUs to pick up a birthday gift, space was limited. So, I bought:
6 bags of Top Soil
3 bags of Potting…

Over the last several weeks, I have noticed that my youngest son doesn’t like to go to bed at night. I am not sure if he is scared of the dark, terrified to be alone, dealing with separation anxiety, if he is just going through a phase where he wants to be independent, or he is afraid of “monsters” hiding under his bed or in his closet. Every night we go through the same exact routine, my youngest son will throw a fit and he will tell me that he doesn’t want to go to bed. Each night we…Continue
