As a vocal breastfeeding advocate, a sex educator and a supporter of survivors of sexual abuse during their childbearing year I have ask myself many times about the validity of “pushing” bf’ing. Yes, breastmilk is best, but if we guilt woman into breastfeeding aren’t we hurting the cause?

I used to believe that breast is always best. I gave the stink eye to bottlefeeding moms, I towed the Breast is Best partyline.
I was wrong.
I passionately believe that breastmilk is the optimal food for your baby. That part is based on science and economics, not opinion. But is feeding your babe at the breast really best for every woman?
For me, as a sexual abuse survivor, breastfeeding was amazingly therapeutic. Breastfeeding my sons transformed my relationship with my… Continue

If you're like me, I have spent plenty of time scrutinizing myself, in front of the mirror. So, when SELF magazine challenged readers to pinpoint a least favorite body part...it took me all of two seconds to zero-in on mine...and talk it up with 5 compliments, that got my attention. So, rather than focus on what I wish were different, for once, I really… Continue

More and more people have been asking me to use more video on my blog. Personally I'd rather read something than watch it on video, but I'm all about reaching out as much as I can, and providing as many different ways to connect with my readers.
I've set up this little challenge for myself ~ I'm 9 days into a 30 day 30 videos challenge.
Yesterday I made a couple videos while we were at the zoo. The content is pretty much the same, but the techniques are totally… Continue

So…what is the ONE miracle kitchen item?…

Hi everyone, I was nominated for a "BestofBlogs" Award in April and I just got word that my blog Renaissance Culinaire has been chosen as a top 10 finalist.
This is a really big deal for me - I just found out today. Usually the biggest names in the blogosphere are the only blogs you see as the top ten finalists for each category - but this year I was initially nominated and accepted for a special "under appreciated blog" category for smaller blogs. I made a long list of… Continue
