I know… I know. Last year, I said I was done. I said that I was going to put all this costume stuff to rest, after I dressed up as the Nutcracker, for my son’s Christmas lunch and I was the only parent to do so. I thought I put the nail in the coffin when I did it, as I thought to myself, it may be time to close that book.
However, my son’s response to the DIY costume was priceless. Together, in the past, we have also done Captain America, American Dream, Spider- Man/Woman, Black…Continue

How (not) To Write A PhD
When I am feeling my most discouraged and whipped by this PhD I tend to start listing mentally, everything that has happened in my life over the past 2.5 years that have made it impossible for me to “properly” get this thing done. Pathetic, I know- but somehow I think it is kind of a common “poor, poor, pitiful me” thing to do. But, I got to thinking a few days ago that, funnily enough, when I am feeling particularly buoyed and optimistic about getting this…Continue

On Friday, while I was out shopping for eggs to color (by myself with no kids!) I decided to pick up a few other items as well. Since it was Easter weekend and Monday night I was going to see my Big Gat Greek Wedding 2, I decided to make Gyros, made with LAMB! My momma made this for dinner a few times when we were living with them while I had my broken leg. When my mom makes this she uses chicken and turkey. When I made it, I used Certified Angus Ground Beef, Ground Lamb, and Chicken.…Continue

Many parents ask me how they know when it is the right time to move their little one from the crib to a toddler bed. Unfortunately the answer is going to be different for everyone because every child is different. The good news is that you will figure it out.
Any new stage and transition in your child’s life is difficult (for you both), but in time, it all settles in and makes perfect sense. As always, Mommy Masters is here to support you and…Continue

It’s 2 a.m., you’ve finally dozed off, and have peacefully drifted into the land of a clean house and well behaved children (Let me clarify...this is in your dreams). All of a sudden, something arouses you to a conscious state. You lie there with your eyes still closed and assess the situation (we’re moms and intuitive dads...we can…Continue

We love baby pajamas around here – the full footie, long sleeve kind made out of the softest cotton. They are a necessity for my son, Grayson because of my sleep habits. I can’t sleep without the air conditioning on 72 degrees and poor Grayson has the coldest room in the house despite us closing the air duct into his room. To make up for it, he gets…Continue

Many parents often times pressure their children to start potty training their child before they are fully ready. Potty training before your child is ready can cause unnecessary stress for both you and your toddler. With all three of my kids, I waited until they were ready to potty train before I even attempted it. A…Continue

Many parents wonder when is the perfect time to transition their baby from their crib into a toddler bed or regular bed. As a mom, I can’t give you a perfect answer because each child is different and is ready to move into a regular bed at different ages. You know your child best and can gauge when you…Continue

This story takes place a couple of years ago when Jake was in 3rd grade and ranks a magnitude 10 on the Richtor scale of embarrassment. This was when I was working again full time and less hopeless (I joke). Anyway, Craig and I usually spent our weekends…
It's official! Trying to get my kids ready for school is like waging a full fledged war on time-management! Let me break down this morning's routine as we prepare to breach the castle like some sort of crazed screaming barbarians. And yes, someone will be calling to confirm my reservation at the nut…Continue

Three years ago I made the decision to let go of the man I had spent 14 years building a life with. It was a decision I made over the course of two years; battling with myself and those close to me who saw the destruction the relationship was creating in my life and in my spirit. It was really awful in the end. But it's over, and I'm happier.
But my children are not.
In fact, for 3 years, my 10 year old son has been unhappy, frustrated, violent, ill-mannered. I have gone…Continue

A couple of weeks ago, my bad-breathing baby landed us in the Trauma Room in the Emergency at our local hospital. On about his fifth Ventolin treatment, a woman was brought into the bed beside us.
The woman was explaining her symptoms as they were…Continue
