My 92-year-old grandma looks a pleasant woman, and indeed she is - but truth be known, she is a woman of great power and everyone should be a little bit afraid of her. For me, I'm most afraid when I am about to share pregnancy news with her.
It seems an odd fear considering grandma gave birth nine times and her mother went through the ordeal a shocking twenty-one times (yes, twenty-one). So why in such a prolific family would I have this fear? Quite simply it is because grandma… Continue

I remember the birth of my first child quite vividly. The other deliveries tend to blend a bit. I've been known to say things like "during one delivery, my blood pressure was really low" or "one of my babies had low blood sugar after birth".
Which baby? What delivery? I can't answer those questions with any kind of confidence.
I even remember the details about Number One Son's first year of life. Not so sure about the others, but I can confirm that they wore nothing but… Continue

I am a woman who enjoys leasurely combing through the web and seeing what I can find. Usually I do have a topic in mind and plunk it into my favourite search engine. Today the topic was "mom blogs".
Mom's you are amazing, wonderful and talented woman that I can only hope to come close to in my blogging life. There are so many of you out there trying to reach us and yet there still isn't enough. We don't seem to be getting our fill or maybe we are unable to find in the places we are… Continue

Oh there’s a new sheriff in town and it’s not a man.
The Internet is now inundated with swarms of Mommy bloggers. Ten years ago there were about two bloggers and they certainly were not Moms.
The new trend is a grassroots movement. No need to be Jennifer Aniston or Brittany Spears to get viewer’s eyeballs to land on a website. Mom blogs are getting web hits comparable to the celebrity sites.
The Mommy blogger… Continue

I'm the new kid on the block here. I am fairly new to blogging but it gives me the chance to talk about my favorite topic- my kids! I'm one of those silly moms who lives and breathes her babies.
I have a little girl.....well diva. She is turning 2 this month and boy can she bring the drama! She's a good girl but certainly knows what she wants.
I also have a little man who is almost 6 months old. How the time has flown. He gives his smiles and giggles pretty easily. He LOVES to eat and… Continue

Let's face it.
You probably will not become a millionaire by blogging.
But, it wouldn't be too bad to pay for a domain name by doing it.
Here are 5 things to keep in mind about advertising on your blog.
1. If your primary intent in blogging is to advertise and make money, don't do it.
Your primary intent for blogging should be to write. When bloggers get focused on the money aspect it is obvious to the readers. Nothing can cheapen your site more or… Continue

Over the past year, I have noticed that mom blogging has evolved. This is great because it means that it is something that we enjoy doing and may keep doing for years to come.
Here are 10 trends that I have noticed in 2008
1. We blog about things besides our family.
2. Random ideas, that you would talk about to your gal pals, are often a blogging topic.
3. We network- Mom Bloggers Club, Facebook, etc.
4. Blogger seems to be the most popular… Continue

Okay - I never usually do things like this on my blog, but I'm feeling very taken by the holiday spirit - and wildly grateful for all that YOU give me by reading this blog, commenting with your brilliant and strong thoughts, telling your friends & colleagues about Writing Roads and being part of my community.
So, I'd like to give you a gift, but only one of you (even though I appreciate you all equally). But, it wouldn't be me if I made this really easy and un-fun. So here is… Continue

So being a new Blogger, has had it's share of challenges....to be sure....maybe it's because I am really my own worst critic when it comes to my writing. Why do I always tend to feel like I'm writing the piece for my highschool or college English teacher....so I analize and over analize...I publish...then edit...then publish again....ARGGHH....
I read this snifty little article about how to be a better blogger.....how it should be the quality… Continue

Yes, you are still at the Writing Roads Blog, aka. Blogging Roads!
Last night my dear designer, Leslie Tane, surprised me by expanding my blog into three columns with a new theme called Amazing Grace, a lightweight, super-optimized WordPress theme packed with features (SEO, Adsense & Widget Ready) created by Vladimir Prelovac. I was thrilled as I’ve been itching for some more elbow room!
One impetus for this space-making was that I’ve been approached by several vendors… Continue

My husband is a good man. He loves his family, he is honest, hard working, and he has got a great sense of humor. He enjoys golf...quiet often. In fact he usually plays every Sunday and therefor has always been understanding of my preoccupation with crafting, decorating, party planning etc.
However, my new found obsession with this blog is a different story. He doesn't get my "blogging thing". So in an effort for him to "get" my "blogging thing" I added him to the e-mail list. I… Continue
