Argh – I have been offline intermittently for the past 2 weeks. My family and I are in South Haven Michigan on Lake Michigan for several weeks. Until this summer we had only dial-up Internet, which was simply torture. Although we are on the lakefront and near a good size community, our immediate area is very rural. It takes 10 minutes off the main road onto a windy dirt road to get all the way out to us.
In years past we had no phone machine, no fax machine and minimal connectivity,… Continue

The other day, a friend of mine found out that someone she had done a blog makeover for went and used her code to make over someone else's blog. My friend found out when she checked in on the site she had done only to see "I just did this makeover" posted. She emailed the person and contacted the blog owner and was eventually compensated.
Once I was dropping entrecards and I noticed that one blogger had a post divulging someones contact information. The reason? He had been stealing… Continue

No, it's not a list of ingredients for a weird recipe, just a list of things I have to remember to maintain, and all of which start out with the best of intentions, ending up in a few straggly brown plants, an algae-covered tank, and a bad case of writer's block.
To explain how these odd ingredients actually do connect, I'm borrowing a line from Alan Jay Lerner, the lyricist & playwright (for My Fair Lady, Camelot, etc.). In his memoir, he wrote that he became a theatre writer… Continue

What a great day! (Except for the black ant invasion that greeted me this morning in the kitchen, ugh… Do you think 8 traps will do the trick, fast?) I got so much done, it’s beautiful outside, I had a massage . . .
I made a phone call, finally ordered some new contact lenses, and paid some bills this morning, so I got that out of the way. After playing with the babysitter for two hours, Landon took an extended nap (with the help of more… Continue

I received a blog award today! It’s from Deborah, and her blog’s name is BabasFarmLife. I picked it up and am very proud and honored to receive the “One Lovely Blog Award.”
I will pass it on to a few blogs I recently discovered that I think deserve a great following. Here is what you do when you get it:
1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link.
2) Pass the award to up to 15 other… Continue

Since I want to reach as many readers as possible, I am always glad when I find something free that I can use to promote my blog. When I learned about Entrecard a couple of months ago, I was exited to join. As everyone in the blog word knows, they recently changed their format and are now featuring paid ads, which will be displayed on your blog if you approve them. A lot of mom blog writers I follow are really upset about these changes and are stopping to participate. Maybe they have been with… Continue

Author Kelly Corrigan wrote this moving essay about women's remarkable capacity to support each other, to laugh together, and to endure. This actually brought me to tears and makes me feel so proud of my gender. I also feel sorry for the men in our lives because they miss out on so much by not having this kind of support system. If you haven't seen this before please take the time to watch it now. Women are truly special and I raised 3 great ones, this is for them. I only wish I had written it.… Continue

Many of us have been tempted to advertise our site in order to get some traffic. Unfortunately, this won't do you much good unless you are willing to spend a lot of money.
The real secret for getting traffic to your site is elbow grease.
Here are some tips.
1. Get involved with MBC by joining groups that can promote your site. There are comment clubs for example.
2. Be sure to include a RSS of your site on your MBC home page.
3. Request friends on… Continue

Taxes, ugh… I just spend another evening compiling the necessary information for our accountant. Yes, we still haven’t sent him what he needs. I have been meaning to give him a call for weeks now, to at least let him know that we intend to use him again this year! But I have been so crazy busy with work (and blogging!), I was pretty sick for two weeks, and here we are, three weeks before the deadline. Wasn’t it just Christmas a little while ago? How does this happen every year? I am such an… Continue

Mountain Mom Report
I like my New Hampshire Mama blog. I like to check out other mom's in locations blogs too but they aren't so easy to find. I found some nice ones in England. I'd love to find other moms like me all around the world, via their blogs.

Trying to find a place to "fit in" in this blogesphere world is not easy...I tried facebook, I only found people I was hoping to forget, people I couldn't remember, and spent most of my time hiding from people I know and didn't want to accept as a friend...TOO much work...And all the gobbly-goop people send around...WHUT? I feel like a juvenele again when I am in there.
I tried BlogCatalog...nice enough, but it was strictly a network site. I'll show you mine if you show me yours kinda… Continue

My 92-year-old grandma looks a pleasant woman, and indeed she is - but truth be known, she is a woman of great power and everyone should be a little bit afraid of her. For me, I'm most afraid when I am about to share pregnancy news with her.
It seems an odd fear considering grandma gave birth nine times and her mother went through the ordeal a shocking twenty-one times (yes, twenty-one). So why in such a prolific family would I have this fear? Quite simply it is because grandma… Continue

I remember the birth of my first child quite vividly. The other deliveries tend to blend a bit. I've been known to say things like "during one delivery, my blood pressure was really low" or "one of my babies had low blood sugar after birth".
Which baby? What delivery? I can't answer those questions with any kind of confidence.
I even remember the details about Number One Son's first year of life. Not so sure about the others, but I can confirm that they wore nothing but… Continue
