I Walked the Red Carpet!

Last week I attended the world premiere of The Greening of Whitney Brown with Brooke Shields and Aidan Quinn in New York City.

I Don’t Like the Term "Mommy Blogger"

Here is the problem I have with the term “mom blogger”: it gets applied to review bloggers and moms who mostly blog about their life and review products only once in a while, like me.

When people talk about mom bloggers, I think they lump in those review blogs that often don’t even have much personal content on them with my kind of blog, which is all about my personal life. {…

Why I Want to Be One Of the Top Eco-Friendly Moms

Do you think I belong on this list? Top 25 Eco-Friendly Moms

I want to be one of the Top 25 Eco-Friendly Moms to you — regardless if I make it on the list or not.

I grew up in Germany, without food dyes and six different bins for recycling for everything from glass, paper, and plastic, and I guess being green is just a way of life for me.

I often can not… Continue

Mommy Bloggers Review Similac App That Sabotages Breastfeeding

As a breastfeeding advocate, I’m disappointed that a few mommy bloggers decided to review the Similac iPhone application for money. (read more)

Why I don't moderate blog comments anymore

I no longer moderate my blog's comments. Famous "Unmarketing" made some great points why that kills your blog. Read more here.

BlogHer 2010, Breastfeeding, and the Nestle Boycott

I’m itching to write my BlogHer post after reading many interesting post from other bloggers who are going. I’ve been wanting to write it for weeks but can’t find the time — trip to Germany, three editing and social media clients that want to be kept happy, the normal momsense (motherhood and wifyhood and a bit of nonsense thrown in), and then there’s that thing called sleep I need to fit in once in a while. Just once in a while.

So here is the compressed version of my… Continue

New Heights of Blogging Fame: I’m Part of a Salad :)

A local pizza place, Bellizzi, asked me and other local bloggers to collaborate on a Blogger Salad, and he included my suggestion! He had asked me, via Twitter, “If you could be any ingredient, what would you be?” My response: “Red bell pepper — fiery and crunchy, and good for your heart — like me.”

Isi wrote an article about the Blogger Salad and all the other…

Mommy Bloggers and Their Depiction in the New York Times

At first I wasn’t going to chime in after reading Sunday’s the New York Times article “Honey, Don’t Bother Mommy. I’m Too Busy Building My Brand.” by Jennifer Mendelsohn. Then I read articles responding to it by other bloggers I respect and the many thought-provoking comments that were left. The mommy blogging word in is a tizzy, there’s even a Facebook page set up to protest the New York Times.… Continue

Motherhood: Mismatched Socks and Reheating Coffee

Not Me! Monday

I did not wear a white and a black woolen sock to New York City the other day. Uh, yes I did. I was invited by Hasbro to a blogger event before they officially opened their doors for the New York Toy Fair (look out for the extensive blog post on that). I could only find one of each, it was 6 in the morning when I got dressed, and nobody was going to notice anyway. I could have worn other socks -- I have plenty -- but these are my… Continue

Do You Want to Make a Living with Your Blogging, Writing, Craft, or Music? You Can!

I am an avid Twitter user -- left to my own devices, I would tweet all day. I like to connect with many other people, mostly moms, who are interested in the same topics: natural birth, breastfeeding, attachment parenting, green and frugal living, homeopathy, and using social media. I also love to provide my followers (2550+) with valuable retweets they might benefit from.

I think social media is amazing in that it allows anyone with a message to get it out to many people — without it… Continue

I Can't Decide -- Do I want Another Child?

Today, I found myself pondering again what I have thought about a few times since Landon was born: do I want another child? Landon was only months old when family members and friends started to ask about the second child, and a lot of my mom friends seem to be having the second child now or are pregnant or working towards it. Not us. Thankfully, I don’t have a huge urge to have another one, although I loved being pregnant and had such a wonderful drug-free birth experience. I say thankfully… Continue

Dooce Inspired: The Case of Our Deranged Bed

I am reading Heather Armstrong’s (better known as dooce.com to millions who read her personal blog) book It Sucked and Then I Cried. It’s insightful, self-deprecating and hilarious, as I expected — I love her blog. So I thought I’ll post a dooce-ish entry inspired by Heather’s writing:

So we finally set up our bed tonight. We moved into this house about a month ago, and we still were sleeping on just the box spring and mattress. (Well, mostly Don sleeps in the bed and I… Continue

Are Mothers Who Choose Not to Breastfeed Selfish?

While pregnant or even before, every woman inevitably thinks about the topic of breastfeeding. Will I breastfeed my baby? For how long? I think most women have the best intentions and try to breastfeed and then stop after different periods of time – they might breastfeed a week, they make it through the rough first few weeks and go on to nurse for a few months or a year, and then there are the extended breastfeeding moms like me.

I believe your breastfeeding success has everything to… Continue

How a Little Boy Named Stellan Made Me a Better Mother

I learned about Jennifer and Stellan a few days ago, and that sweet little boy has been on my mind since then. Jennifer’s beautiful blog, My Charming Kids, is actually one of the first mom blogs I ever came across seven months ago when I started my blog, but I hadn’t checked in until a tweet by another mom caught my attention. Stellan, one of four, is her nine-month-old adorable little boy who has heart failure, and Jennifer blogs about their difficult and heart-breaking journey every day. More… Continue

How Long Did You Breastfeed? Why Did You Stop?

After my wonderful experience with it, I have become passionate about breastfeeding and would like to encourage as many moms as possible to start and continue to breastfeed — that is a major reason why I started my blog, DagmarBleasdale.com. No matter how long you choose to breastfeed — one week or four years — I want to be a resource and cheerleader for all new mothers because I believe most women can nurse their child with the… Continue

Busy Moms, Treat Yourself to a Massage!

What a great day! (Except for the black ant invasion that greeted me this morning in the kitchen, ugh… Do you think 8 traps will do the trick, fast?) I got so much done, it’s beautiful outside, I had a massage . . .

I made a phone call, finally ordered some new contact lenses, and paid some bills this morning, so I got that out of the way. After playing with the babysitter for two hours, Landon took an extended nap (with the help of more… Continue

I Received an Award!

I received a blog award today! It’s from Deborah, and her blog’s name is BabasFarmLife. I picked it up and am very proud and honored to receive the “One Lovely Blog Award.”

I will pass it on to a few blogs I recently discovered that I think deserve a great following. Here is what you do when you get it:

1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link.

2) Pass the award to up to 15 other… Continue

Thoughts About My Blog and Entrecard.com

Since I want to reach as many readers as possible, I am always glad when I find something free that I can use to promote my blog. When I learned about Entrecard a couple of months ago, I was exited to join. As everyone in the blog word knows, they recently changed their format and are now featuring paid ads, which will be displayed on your blog if you approve them. A lot of mom blog writers I follow are really upset about these changes and are stopping to participate. Maybe they have been with… Continue
