Rocco's Car Bedroom

Today Rocco told me that his pre-school really hurt his arm.  Alarmed, I asked, “What!?!”… “How!?!” His response as he whimpered and held his left arm?  “They made me pick up a lot of toys.”  The kid just makes me laugh… and roll my eyes…  And yesterday?  Yesterday he told me that his ears get loose.  “WHAT?” I asked.  His response to that one?  “You’re losing your head and my ears are getting loose.”  Here’s what I came up with: When I do something stupid (which is often) I say,…

For teenage boys, wearing sunscreen is soooo not cool...

A few of you out there may have a teenage boy. I personally have a 14 year old boy and am constantly stunned (and puzzled) how his behavior contrasts that of his older sister. I mean, I know there is of course a difference between boys and girls but this to me seems weird: he is embarrassed to wear sunscreen. Is your son/grandson the same way?

My most recent blog post provides a little bit of an overview of his distain for…

My Son...The Reader

I have always been a reader.  I can not remember a time that I didn't love books and magazines.  When I was little, my grandmother always subscribed to magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Ebony and Jet.  I spent countless hours flipping through those magazines as a child.  My grandmother got a kick out of me sitting in her living room reading the Los Angeles Times newspaper when I was about 9 years old.  When I was totally engrossed in a book and it was time for bed, I…

Moms in Boyland

For those moms of boys, there is a camaraderie among us. We are the moms who have grown accustomed to rough-and-tumble play, checking pants pockets on laundry day for small critters, stepping on Legos with bare feet (and trying not to let your son hear you curse…

D-ring and Velcro Belts for Kids, Which To Choose and Why

When I started my company, Cute Beltz I was so excited because let’s face it, you couldn’t and still can’t find belts for toddlers in the major chains and I was going to make sure every kid’s “bum” was covered! After 4 years, I am still excited about belts! It really is a wonderful feeling to hear a “thank you” from so many of you!

I love that we offer two types of belts because no person is the same and we all have a look in mind when we purchase an accessory. So it’s cool we offer…

A Well Visit Wake Up - or How My Son Became An "Adolescent"

I recently took my 11 year old son for his yearly well visit with the pediatrician.  At the end of the appointment, and after being assured all was indeed well, the doctor handed me a nifty little printout detailing the visit.  The first page listed current height and weight, any labs and tests ordered, results from vision and hearing screening, and any follow up…

Welcome to Nike Town!

Okay, so my 11-year-old son’s feet grew.  A lot.

He’s been wearing the same pair of sneakers for the last 7 months.  I kept asking him if they felt too tight or if he was uncomfortable, and he kept telling me they felt fine.  I’ve offered several times to buy him a new pair of sneakers, but he’s declined.  Being a creature of habit, he likes to wear the same things over and over again, especially his shoes.  Plus, he hates any kind of shopping.  And with the mild winter we've…

Hiking, Lion Poop and Dexter Rangers

“There really is nothing like a weekend getaway to the mountains. After an early morning of coffee and coffee, I decided to go on one of the many hikes this community boasted. Because I am an overachiever and think I’m a triathlete, despite never having attempted one, I headed to the most difficult trail. It read on the complex map “MOST DIFFICULT.” Well, that was for me. I set out after a little stretching.

Veteran Moms Needed

I'll admit it: There are worse things in life than a 5 year-old boy who loves to be with his mommy. Like famine, disease, another Kardashian reality show...But I really can't take it anymore, and I need some insight as to how I should deal with the obsession attention. (Before you go on, yes I know this won't last forever and yes I know there will be a day when I'll miss this, but for the sake of my sanity I must have coping mechanisms.)

When I leave the room for…
