Boob job after having kids?

I'm amazed how many moms would opt for breast implants if they had the opportunity.

And I'm amazed how many moms believe the myth that breastfeeding was the cause for their sagging breasts. Pregnancy and factors like smoking causes breasts to sag, not breastfeeding.

As a breastfeeding advocate, I don't want that myth to be the…

BlogHer 2010, Breastfeeding, and the Nestle Boycott

I’m itching to write my BlogHer post after reading many interesting post from other bloggers who are going. I’ve been wanting to write it for weeks but can’t find the time — trip to Germany, three editing and social media clients that want to be kept happy, the normal momsense (motherhood and wifyhood and a bit of nonsense thrown in), and then there’s that thing called sleep I need to fit in once in a while. Just once in a while.

So here is the compressed version of my… Continue

Traveling to Germany with a Little Boy (and Breastfeeding in Public)

The second day of our visit to my girlfriend’s farm we spent at the local pool. For such a small town in the country, they have a very sophisticated pool with tons of water features, and the boys were in and out of the water for four hours. Since I didn’t have a bathing suite and had just burned my skin to a crisp on Nantucket, I was in no mood to swim, so Karen “swam” with the boys and I took… Continue

Extended Breastfeeding Past the Toddler Age

Today is quite a special day — I have been breastfeeding my son for 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days. Yay for extended breastfeeding!

When I started breastfeeding, I didn’t have a goal in mind of how long I wanted to do it. I had such breastfeeding problems during the first two weeks with sore nipples, all I was concerned with was learning how to breastfeed correctly so it would stop hurting so much. Thinking about how long I was going to do it was furthest from my mind, all I… Continue

Are Mothers Who Choose Not to Breastfeed Selfish?

While pregnant or even before, every woman inevitably thinks about the topic of breastfeeding. Will I breastfeed my baby? For how long? I think most women have the best intentions and try to breastfeed and then stop after different periods of time – they might breastfeed a week, they make it through the rough first few weeks and go on to nurse for a few months or a year, and then there are the extended breastfeeding moms like me.

Breastfeeding was one of the things I most looked… Continue

How Long Did You Breastfeed? Why Did You Stop?

After my wonderful experience with it, I have become passionate about breastfeeding and would like to encourage as many moms as possible to start and continue to breastfeed — that is a major reason why I started my blog, DagmarBleasdale.com. No matter how long you choose to breastfeed — one week or four years — I want to be a resource and cheerleader for all new mothers because I believe most women can nurse their child with the… Continue

First Night Away From Toddler--Why I Co-Sleep--Safety Guidelines

My niece invited all the Bleasdale women to New Hampshire to celebrate her bridal shower, and I was exited to go. L is 2 ½ now and I have never been away from him for a night. We practice attachment parenting and co-sleeping, meaning he sleeps next to me. So going to the shower meant that Don had to take care of L by himself for two days, including one night. I am the only one who can get our sweet little boy to sleep, by bouncing with him on an exercise ball or nursing him, so this was going… Continue

This is why I STILL breastfeed!

I am breastfeeding a 2 ½-year-old toddler, and I have no problem doing it in public. In fact, I am so proud and glad that I am still breastfeeding that I have a breastfeeding counter on the bottom of my blog page! You would expect strangers to give me looks, but I actually have to justify my choice to friends and family more and more lately.

Why do I still breastfeed? Because Landon still wants to and asks for it, I love the bond we have through it and the convenience — and most… Continue

How to Save Money on a Saturday - Coupons and Church Sales

Today was a great day, and even better — a frugal day. We got up after 9 a.m. (somehow Landon seems to know that it’s the weekend, during the week he gets up around 7:30 a.m. I needed that sleep, I had been up until 2 a.m. again blogging!) and ate a healthy breakfast. I made oatmeal because Landon asked for it (ot meow). I spend a little time on my computer marketing my blog (Twitter and Facebook updates, an e-mail to my friends) and got ready to head out. I wanted to check out the rummage sale… Continue

Find Your Passion - And Pursue it!

I just came back from “Mom’s’ Night Out – Women Who Make a Difference,” an event organized by Beth Feldman from rolemommy.com. It was wonderfully inspiring to hear Lee Woodruff talk about her journey after her husband Bob suffered a brain injury in Iraq, Alison Tepper Singer’s advocacy for autism that grew out of her daughter being diagnoses as autistic, and Lauren Candela-Katz’s involvement in fundraising. All of them, including Beth, stressed that they are doing what they are passionate… Continue
