mom-foodstamps-cereal

To the mom using foodstamps, I see you.

I see the fear in your eyes when someone gets in line behind you.  You wonder if they’re judging your food choices, not knowing that the cupcakes you’re buying are for your son’s birthday.  Last year your family had to buy his cake because you couldn’t afford it, you never want that hollow feeling in the pit of your stomach again.  You felt like such a…

Back to School - BillMyParents Smart Spend Card

Finally a spend-smart credit card for teenagers! When my son was 16 years old, he had an opportunity to go England and train with the coach of the Manchester United soccer team. Chase (my son, not the bank) had a bank account but due to under-18 age status, he was restricted with his ATM debit-only card which he could not use as a credit card. So, we nervously gave him cash to take with him. I bought several travel type garments (socks, money belts) in which he could hide the money. Not a great… Continue

Tengo Un Gato En Mis Pantalones- Wait, That's Not Right.....

"Tengo un gato en mis pantalones.... You really need to learn to speak Spanish so we can talk around the kids without them knowing what we're saying." Words actually spoken by my best friend this morning.

But, wait. This is Tucson. My kids may not be able to understand what's going on if we speak Spanish, but everyone else's kids around us will. And, I don't think something's quite right. Did you just teach me to say "I have a cat in my pants"?

Learn How to Live Below Your Means

When I was in my late teens and early twenties, I’d easily spend $300 on a Coco Chanel wallet or Tiffany card case. And that evening, it was nothing to drop another hundred on dinner with friends. Sears, Kmart, Target and “the Walmart” were definitely off my shopping radar. After all, only poor people shopped those places.

When I look back at all the…

I'll be honest with you this year has been a struggle, living from one pay day to the next, and for a family… Continue
