My Caesarean Section Birth Story

Warning! This may be a little long, but it did take FOREVER for this little girl to grace us with her presence. And she was worth every bit of agony I went through.

My due date was November 12th, 2003. From the very beginning of my pregnancy, knowing my due date, I had…

Eating During Labor | Is it okay to eat during labor? New episode of BLABBERMOM |

Did your hospital or midwife allow eating during labor? Most of us MomCavers weren’t allowed to eat once we arrived at the hospital. The reasoning behind this (barbaric, in our opinion) practice is that in an emergency, general anesthesia may be used and any food eaten could aspirate into the lungs. While this may be a concern in very rare cases, most laboring moms are doing the most physically demanding work of their lives and could use some sustenance.

Last fall,…

Sharing the germs with your baby

My son was born via C-section. That definitely was not the way that I wanted to go, but that is the path we had to take. And at the end of the day, I had a healthy baby boy, so that is all that mattered to me. I did the skin-to-skin contact and breastfed him as soon as I was able because I had read so much research on those connections being important to a newborn.…

Whatever the journey, the beauty is in the baby.

I love the photo on the top-left and what it stands for.

It's gone viral and for good reason. After reading the article that was associated with it I couldn’t help be compelled to write my two cents worth. I’m part of a number of virtual community groups in my area and the first time I…

Happy 2nd Birthday to My Baby Boy!

Wow, I can’t believe it has been two years since I was impatiently awaiting for you to arrive.  I remember when I was on my way to my final doctors appointment, I didn’t know that it would be my final visit as a pregnant mom. I had a previous history of low amniotic fluid during my previous pregnancy and she order the ultrasound to ensure that I still had enough fluid…

Hospital Bag Must-Haves

http://www.thepiggytoes.com/2013/02/20/hospital-bag-must-haves/

Being that this is my 3rd time packing for a 3 night, 4 day stay in the hospital (I have C-Sections), I feel well prepared for what’s to come and know just what I need for our time there!  I wouldn’t say that I over-pack but I definitely like having my stuff with me so I don’t take…

Story of My Final Pregnancy - My Birth Story

I was super excited and nervous when I found out that I was expecting in September of 2010.  Just a few weeks before I found out, I was watching my mother struggle with her battle with Pick’s disease.  Pick’s disease is a rare form of Alzheimer’s that affects the frontal lobe of the brain.  In August of 2010, she was in the final stages and was admitted to the ICU with severe case of pneumonia.  My dad was out of town, so I spent the last few days with her at her bed side along with my…

What to Expect During A C-Section Delivery

A C-Section is a major surgery and can be very scary for most moms, it was for me.  I was terrified when the ultrasound technician discovered that my son was breech.  My doctor order an ultrasound to check my amniotic fluid levels once I reached 40 weeks because with my oldest son, my fluid levels dropped after…

OB-GYN Drama

http://www.thepiggytoes.com/2013/01/04/ob-gyn-drama/

The start of January meant one thing to me: Baby time! Time to get all of the Christmas decor put away & time to focus on having our 3rd baby!  I, like many mamas spend the last couple months of my pregnancies resting and nesting. I call it my ‘R&N Time’…  Get the nursery together, wash clothes and blankets,…

T Minus 2.. or 3.. or 9

So, these last days leading up to the baby’s estimated due date have been quite the emotional whirlwind for me.

Of course, like every other mama on the brink of giving birth, I have been totally anxious to feel the beginnings of labor, or receive SOME sign that the baby has decided to make his way into this world. And like every other wishful VBAC mama, I have been especially anxious, hoping that this baby’s birth might be different from my first baby’s.  In search of giving my son…

Vaginal Birth vs. C-section

Having a baby can be one of the most amazing feelings ever. It can be scary and intense but with the right support group it can be an amazing experience.

However sometimes things don't go the way you'd like them to go. Complications can happen to both mother and baby and the stress of it all can take away a lot of that joy that you should have as a new parent. …

Facing My Fears in Pregnancy

I have this repeated dream that I am lying strapped down to an operating table, people are moving quickly around me but ignoring my cries of pain. I pass out and its the end of me. The next thing I know I'm looking at myself from above the operating table. I'm gone and my husband is crying. Then I wake up and realize I should be laying in a different position or I should prob myself up a little more and my sciatica pain goes away at least for 10 to 15…

Take Back Child Birth

This post caused a mediocre stir on my blog a little bit ago:

I'm sure by now you've seen the articles and heard the commentary on how cesarean rates are rising. Doctors are performing optional cesarean section deliveries when women decide prior to childbirth that they do not want to feel the pain of labor, experience the adventure of pushing or the challenge of delivering a child without medical intervention. It's no secret that doctors and hospitals treat pregnancy as a medical… Continue
