Things I've Learned This Week

** I am a chocolate chip cookie whore.

** Sinus headaches and motherhood go together about as well as flannel pajamas go with humidity.

** Meal plans that don't include chocolate or wine are clearly not the plans for me.

** Finding a store that still sells Excedrin Migraine is like finding the pot of gold at the end of a…

Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie Recipe

I'm not a breakfast person. I generally hate eggs, and usually anything I eat early in the morning disagrees with my tummy. I have found, though, that smoothies work well for me in the morning. Really anytime. Plus they are quick and convenient and give me the energy I need to get from one task to the next. I wanted to share with you my Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie recipe made with almond milk, instead of dairy milk, which is much easier on me. At 294 calories (calculated with…

Fifty Shades of Nutella

I’m standing at the kitchen counter about to start dinner.  I open the cabinet to round up the ingredients for this evening’s meal and I see it, that seemingly innocent white-lidded jar, beckoning my attention.  I look away and continue gathering my supplies, but its call is too great to ignore.  I remove the Nutella  from the cabinet and slowly twist off…

Things I've Learned This Week

** Apparently, it's ALWAYS my fault.

** Bollywood dancing is actually pretty darn fun.

** Dogs apparently CAN eat a whole bunch of chocolate and not die.

** Turns out that I am not Super Woman.

Party Preparations

One great thing about our new, larger house is the ability to actually have guests over. We already held the small family party for Jellybean's birthday, but this Saturday, I'm excited to host a real two year old birthday party and invite some of her little…

I can’t believe that Easter is right around the corner.  I am always looking for fun things to make with my son and while at the grocery store last weekend I saw all the marshmallow peeps!  You know the cute little marshmallow candies in the shape of little chicks covered in colorful sugar.  Well now they make them covered in chocolate!  Since we love marshmallow peeps and I have tons of chocolate chips at home I thought my son and I could make our own chocolate covered marshmallow…

The Silly Cranberry

While I was making cranberry scones with my children, a little cranberry kept prodding me to let her tell the baking story.  So, in a spirit of silliness and fun, I let her.  I invite you to read my guest writer's post here

Thank you all and best regards. :-)

FYI chocolate covered coffee beans = kids who wont go to sleep

Thanks friendly neighbor for giving my ADHD, ASD, OCD boys chocolate covered coffee beans… either they are for me, then AWESOME! I love you!  Or you can’t read Spanish, in which case you are an idiot for buying candy and you don’t know what it is. Or you’re  just an asshole and you thought it would be funny to give coffee beans to children. I am HOPING that these were intended for me and  that you’re not an idiotic asshole who buys things in gourmet aisle just to say you bought your neighbor…

It is National S'Mores Day!

August 10 is National S’Mores Day. Thankfully, this “holiday” is an easy one to digest (pun intended in every way, because really, the last thing I need is another holiday to plan for).

Why celebrate S’mores? Tradition and pure yumminess. If there is anything that instantly elicits the thought of a summer camping vacation is has to be S’Mores. It’s an American campfire tradition that dates back to the 1920’s…

Washing Dishes...Again

When we moved to our new home eight months ago, I was worried. You see, our new home has no dishwasher. And I had kind of made a personal vow that I would never move to another home without a dishwasher again until all my kids had left the nest.

I love dishwashers. Matter of fact, if I had to put all my appliances in order (yes, odd, but something I've done while living without electricity in the rainforest), it would be like this:

1. Stove (Burners beat out all. Plain and…

A Heart to Heart Discussion About Chocolate

By Mrs/Dr. T, Snarky PhD Scientist and Guest Contributor

The media has done a pretty good job making sure EVERYONE knows that chocolate might be good for you. It’s hard to find a women’s magazine that hasn’t promoted this message, particularly this time of year when Valentine’s Day sends chocolate sales…

"She's an Amazon!"

This is my first post of 2011...everyone else seems to be writing about their New Years resolutions. I don't really like New Year resolutions. They seem silly, if your going to do something just do it already, why would it being a new year help you? If you couldn't get your crap together yesterday the ball dropping in Time's Square isn't going to help you. In light of my bad attitude about New Year resolutions I am going to share things I was going to do anyway regardless of it now being… Continue

The Scariest Thing About Halloween

Bring on the ghouls, the ghosts, the zombies, the black cats, the goblins, the monsters! In our house, the scariest thing about Halloween is my daughter's life-threatening allergy to dairy. Ask any pregnant woman and she will tell you that now she’s expecting what once smelled delicious  - like roasting coffee beans for example, has suddenly become the one smell that induces an overwhelming feeling of nausea. For some women the pregnant nose goes into smell overdrive with incredible detection ability, in fact increased smell sensitivity can save lives. Just ask your local gas company – pregnant…

Black Friday – it’s Not Just About Fashion

Fashion, eh? It comes and goes, then comes back around again, at once fleeting and eternal. A style is in one month and then is never heard of again – until it is heard of again, of course.

The quest for fashionable clothes never ends; it’s just that what is in vogue is always changing.…
