Safety Tips to Prevent Your Dream Pool from Becoming a Nightmare

Whether it’s a cosy hot tub, a full-sized pool or something in between, having a private place to take a dip at home is one of life’s greatest luxuries. There is little that compares to shrugging off the day’s troubles with a few relaxing laps or a good book and the gentle massage of…

Who taught you how to drive like that?

I was a late-in-life driver. There were a number of reasons why that is, but when it was time for me to learn what to do behind the wheel, my parents were not available to teach me. So, my Mom got me a driving instructor. (Thanks, Mom!)…

An Air Travel With Your Kid Might Not Be That Difficult After All

Image result for traveling with kids in flight

In an era of availability of air tickets which can even mean that you can afford business class tickets within your affordability, the tendency to travel has definitely gone up leaps and bounds. These days people don’t even think twice before planning to go for a tour. On the contrary, a foreign tour for many people has different factors. One very common factor among them is the availability of the cheap…

'Connect With Nature Through Art' Cave Paintings

This week, at the ‘Connect With Nature Through Art’ class, learned all about cave paintings. We made paint with dirt and butter and we even played shadow tag at the end.

The science that sticks

I listen to a podcast on my way to work called Stuff You Missed in History Class. It touches on people I've never heard of before, takes a much deeper dive on stories that may have only gotten a paragraph in my history textbooks and offers up a lot of non-U.S. history, which I thoroughly enjoy.…

End of the School Year Madness

1340509283247_6049743

Maybe it's just me, but the end of the school year always seems to bring with it a boatload of unwanted stress.  Finding a "place" for all the papers that are sent home, trying not to drown in the flood of never-ending emails, buying the gazillion and one thank you gifts -- IT NEVER EVER…

Lamaze Birthing Classes are Designed to Empower Expectant Mothers

The Lamaze birthing technique is probably the most common child birthing technique that is taught  by hospitals and child birth educators.  This birthing technique was created by Dr Fernand Lamaze in the 1940′s to help women cope with the pain of childbirth.  He felt that women were capable of giving birth without the need of medical intervention.  The goal of his techniques was to empower women and teach them how to cope with child birth pain.

Veritas Prep Outlines the 5 Steps Every Parent Can Take to Help Their Student Ace the SAT

For many parents of high school students, the SAT – a standardized exam most colleges and universities use to evaluate applicants – is somewhat of an unknown. While they understand that it is an important part of the college admissions process and that a high score can result in acceptance to the best schools and lead to scholarship awards, they may not know how they can help their students with SAT test prep so they can do their best on the…

Sweaty Elbows

The thing about hot yoga is that you will have sweat coming from body parts you didn't know could sweat.  Like your elbows.  I was a little intimidated by the idea of trying a 75 minute class where I would be sweating while twisting my body into a human pretzel.  I've taken regular yoga classes before.  I can  feel my heart rate go up and blood get pumping in the cooler temps of those classes.  I was a little uncertain if I might be passing out at some point during the class.

Adventures in Exercise

“I’m soooo sorry, Are you ok?,”- that’s what the old lady in my hydrorider class said to me after she accidently dropped her 55lb bike on my head as I was helping her get it into the water. I was fine but had to hold an icepack on the side of my face for the whole duration of the water “spin” class.

We had joined our gym a few years ago and it took me the longest time to even try a group class. I…

Downward Dogging It

I started practicing yoga about three years ago when I was pregnant with my little girl. It was love at first breath. What other exercise allows for a ten minute rest time (Savasana)? To be forced to relax for ten minutes is the best thing ever!

Unfortunately, I have fallen off the yoga-love wagon.

Tredding the Waters with My AquaTot

This summer, I'm taking another round of "swimming" classes with my toddler. For her, it's a way to get comfortable in the water; I know she will not master the art of the backstroke but she will learn to float on her back.

But for me, it's a lesson on what not to wear, what to bring and what to really do in the water with my tot! (Yes moms and dads, if you want your child to blow bubbles in the pool then you too must insert face in water!)

Come share…

THE "SKY CURTAIN" SEPARATING ME FROM THEM!!!!!

Look familiar? Ah, yes, the paradoxical gird-iron (thin-as-toilet-paper)

curtain that separates the plane into 2 groups. I've been flying for 32

years & only once have I been on the other side of the curtain.

Admittedly, when I had that chance, I LOVED it! I felt like a princess.…
