My husband and I are pretty good about clearing away clutter. A decade of moving together and making ourselves purge before every one made us good about living simply. When we bought a house, we promised each other that we would still purge often. And in the time since then, we have moved bags of no-longer-useful-to-us stuff out of the house. We hope that our son learns to purge early and often.…Continue

The more toys you have, the more toys there are the clean up. And for some reason, kids never find toy clean up as fun as toy playing.
Living in a one-bedroom apartment, we try to keep clutter (including toys!) to a minimum. I’ve tried all kinds of storage systems and toy clean up rules, like “no more than two toys out at a time.”
But inevitably, a few hours into the day, I’d be tripping over toy cars and puzzle pieces. And can you blame them? Toys are fun and cleaning just……Continue

We often take the ready availability of clean water for granted. It flows freely from a tap for drinking, washing, and bathing. But many people around the world do not have clean water. And is your supply as clean as it should be? Consider the need to make sure your family's water is…Continue

My Mother calls me a classic underbuyer.
There are probably many reasons for this: The fire that we had when I was little that taught me that possessions are not important. Or the series of apartments and moves that we went through that taught me to go through all my things once a year and get rid of what I…

I like a neat house. I am not the type of person who cannot sleep if the house is messy, but I will make sure to give it a thorough clean on the weekend when I can devote some real time to doing so. When my home is clean, I feel more calm and rested in it.…

Dear Parents I Used to Nanny For,
Twenty years, twenty pounds, and a marriage and two kids ago, I was your nanny. And I judged you. My parenting standards were based on unrealistic expectations. I knew nothing of the shit storm that is parenting. While I made bewildered mental notes about the state of your home, the behavior of your children, and your fashion choices, you were keeping actual human beings alive. I apologize.
I have seen the light. And so has Anna Lane, who…Continue

I'm finally finding my way to a good cleaning schedule. It has taken me a lot of frustrating moments and many guilty feelings that the house is never clean. Since I stay at home full-time, I feel like the house should be spotless and feel guilt when it looks like a tornado came through. I am finally getting myself together and organized after 1 1/2 years of being a stay-at-home mom. After much research and making a list of everything in my house that needs to be cleaned on a regular or…Continue

Back when I was growing up, our home was always clean. I don't mean tidy. I mean practically white-glove-test-clean. Some used to call my mother "The White Tornado." She'd just shrug and laugh it off. The thing is, though, I don't recall ever seeing her spend endless days cleaning. In fact, most days in the summertime…Continue

Just a little update, I thought it was time to share my health and fitness journey, and maybe I could help someone who may be feeling the same way. During the month of February 2014, after making yet another major decision, I moved back to the east coast. Unfortunately, life was not working out the way I thought it would. Without fail, depression kicked in, and my health started to take a turn for the worse. I was tired all the time, I started to use food as an…

WARNING: The following information is not recommended for people with weak hearts. What you are about to read can create an instant urge to run to the sink and clean your hands in anxiety.
1. Laundry Baskets – When we saw this idea, we thought it was brilliant! Keep one or two laundry baskets in the trunk of your car. We are sure you can find multiple uses for them, but the use that we were really excited about was grocery storage. Put your groceries in the laundry baskets to keep everything contained while you are driving. This prevents a bunch of grocery bags…Continue

Some women view cleaning up as a chore, but I view it as a step by step process that is organized, effective and actually relaxing (crazy I know). Allow me to explain:
Here is picture of my kitchen after dinner, which pretty much looks like a disaster. There are dishes everywhere, items to be stored and put away, dirty napkins, counter tops that are littered with cutting boards, grease and the remnants of a delicious meal.…Continue

Does your car need some tender loving care? Have your kids helped trashed your car? If you have kids, you probably are already aware of how much stuff tends to accumulate in the car and if you are a new parent, here is what you can look forward to in the future. I know that if I went out to the car right…Continue

Is your bathroom a disaster? Does your bathroom need deep cleaning? I know mine is usually cluttered with beauty products and personal items on the bathroom counter. The bathrooms in our house are lacking in storage so our personal care items usually end up sitting on top of the…Continue
