Who knew that it was an American bartender, working at a bar in Paris in the roaring 20′s, that would come up with the iconic American drink that is the Bloody Mary.
Traditionally, the Bloody Mary is made with vodka, tomato juice, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and garnished with a lime; all served in a tall glass. This cocktail has come a…Continue

If you are a fan of the Mad Men show, then you know that the era’s drink of choice was the cocktail – and not just one… Set in the 60′s in NYC, the era romanticized the Rat Pack’s image of a bottomless drink and a smoke, a vice for each hand.
Forget about the…Continue

This past weekend, some girlfriends and I had organized a fun night out in downtown Chicago. No husbands, no kids, just us girls kickin' it in the city. Unfortunately, though, our whole night was planned around a godforsaken musical that we'd bought tickets to see on LivingSocial. It was called, "Girls Night: The Musical" and promised to be a super fun mix of…Continue

Now many of you may have thought that this was some sort of sexual reference (cause let's be honest, usually it is), but surprisingly, this time, it was actually a very innocent comment referring to a new cocktail recipe that I found recently and somehow persuaded my husband to whip up for our friends and…Continue

** I totally know how Jack Torrance felt. Cabin fever can suck it.
** Only 25% of the pee in this house actually makes it into the bowl (and that 25% belongs to ME!)
** My referee whistle needs to be a helluva lot louder.

At the end of the summer, I sent two of my sons and our moose sized dog Dutch, down the lane to pick blackberries. An hour later they returned, almost empty handed, with just a pitiful pile of berries tumbling around the bottom of their bowl. I had envisioned an overflowing bounty upon their return and was confused. “Uhmm, we found out that Dutch likes blackberries too!” they exclaimed with purple stained smiles and ran through the house on to their next adventure.

Most of my life I've had severe anxiety and couldn't make myself take that first step. But, if I had the nerve, I would have loved to be a…Continue
