Frito Pie With Rice Recipe

I love meals that are easy to fix so that I don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen.  One Sunday afternoon, we were trying to figure out what we wanted to eat for lunch on the way home from church.  My husband suggested that we…

An Uncanny Friendship

Nothing surprises me anymore. Over the last few years I have learned a lot about myself. I've learned to roll with the punches life throws at you; I've learned to let things roll off my back; I've learned to pick my battles; I've learned that I'm not very good at making decisions; I've learned that it's okay to step outside my comfort zone; I've learned that it's important who my inner circle consists of; I've learned that…

Whole Grain Pumpkin Penne

Whole Grain Pumpkin Penne Pasta combines two of my favorite healthy flavors...pumpkin and whole grains.  Comfort food at it's best, flavorful and healthy too. Fall has arrived and the leaves are turning.  The nights are cool and call for a cozy night in front of the fire with a blow of Whole Grain Pumpkin Penne.…

Walk Miles in Style - Shoe Review

I love to travel. I hate to look like a tourist. Especially in a metropolitan setting (it’s a whole other style discussion if I’m going to trek up and down the Grand Canyon). The ubiquitous camera is the first dead giveaway. And then the shoes. The comfortable, sensible walking shoes. Might as well have TOURIST tattooed in all caps on your forehead, right? You’re with me, I know it. It’s not that I need to wear 3 inch heels when I’m…

FOUND HER CRYING ON HER KNEES

I'll never forget this one... A few years back, we were on vacay, chillin' by the pool. About 15 feet away from us I noticed a woman on her knees, with her head against a concrete wall. That's what caught my eyes. She was crying so hard. That's what caught my ears. A sunbather, pool attendant & lifeguard all walked by, asking her if she was OK. I ran over & knelt beside her. "Ma'am, I am a pastor's wife, may I pray for you?" Looking up from the concrete wall, still crying, she nodded… Continue

The 8 Month Wedgie: How Pregnancy Ate My Underwear

Original Posting at NewlyParents.com here

grannypanties It doesn't matter how cute of a pregnant person your friends and family (or the occasional random stranger) say you are, at some point there will be no words that can change the fact that you feel like a giant blob. (Insert Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory scene where Violet eats the 3 course meal gum. "You're turning violet,… Continue

A life-changing lesson brought to you by Mr. Bear

Mr. Bear I was outraged last night when I saw my 6-year old, J, punching Mr. Bear in the face. I felt physically sick and became more upset than he could possibly understand. .

I really wanted to tell him what that little yellow bear means to me. I'm not smart enough to describe on a 1st grade level how that stuffed animal continues to impact my life. However, we're all adults, right? So, I figured I'd just tell you, instead. .
