The pros and cons of using parental control apps

Nowadays kids are fully-equipped with all sorts of devices to live their life online. Thus, they have all opportunities to be 100% independent. But isn’t it too early for kids to live an adult life?!

Of course, it is great that children are able to chat with their friends, text and send pictures, communicate…

Video: Birth Control Options

16

Dear Diary,

After I gave birth, I thought about a lot of things--birth control options weren't one of them. I asked myself, what will I name my daughter? Who does she look like? Will my milk come in? What else do I need to buy? But birth control methods weren't on the list. Previously, I used the NuvaRing, which wasn't very effective. OK, who am I kidding? You gotta read the fine print…

Having a baby with an IUD on the side

During my first follow-up appointment after having my son, my OB/GYN looked at me and asked, "Do you want another baby right away?"

"Ummm...can I just enjoy this one for a bit first?" I asked.…

Self control and lollipops

There was too much candy in the house. My son had a candy stash that contained loot from Halloween, Christmas, birthday parties and Easter. I rooted through the stash and discovered that there were a lot of lollipops.…

The cost of family planning

Well-meaning friends and family members always have questions. When you start dating someone for a while, they want to know when you are getting married. When you get married, they want to know when you are going to have a baby. When you have a baby, they want to know if you are going to have another baby. (And, if several years go by, they really want to know if you are going to have another baby. If you hedge at all, they are…

Milestones Are Not Set in Stone

Rosemary Lichtman, Ph.D. and Phyllis Goldberg, Ph.D.

If you've recently celebrated a landmark birthday, you may be thinking about the milestones in your life. Crossing from one personal decade into another is a significant event and takes on a life of its own. Connecting with friends who are also making this transition can help focus on what you've gained over the years – memories, perspective, wisdom – rather than on what you've lost – agility, some energy, your youth!…

Almost Legal

Almost Legal

I knew it was coming up but I guess I just put it out of my mind. Did not want to face it. My oldest is turning 18 in two months. 60ish days that I still have any real legal say, at least in his mind and the governments, in what he does, says, doesn't do, etc. Of course I still say things that I swore…

Navigating Life's Twists and Turns

Rosemary Lichtman, Ph.D. and Phyllis Goldberg, Ph.D.

Remember playing car-racing games at the arcade, trying to stay on the virtual road while going as fast as you can? In those videos, sharp curves keep switching and obstacles suddenly appear, causing you to crash and burn if your reactions aren’t fast enough.

It may be fun to play a game, but what about when life itself mirrors this wild ride? Whether you're actually on a…

What the heck is all that brown stuff?

Oh no...

Checking out my garden this afternoon, I did my usually walk around on the patio smiling at the veggies plants and flowers that are growing well and speaking to them about the weather, their sexy leaves, and nice legs (stems) because I heard you're supposed to talk to plants. Don't judge me! Just after I open the screen door to speak to…

Is society controlling your life?

After getting the kiddos situation in the kitchen with an art project this morning I set off for the family room to fold clothes. Exciting I know!  While folding I turned on the TV and quickly found myself being pulled into a talk show. The topic was unconventional marriages.  The host was interviewing a traditional Orthodox Jewish marriage.  First I found it ironic that the topic was unconventional marriages and the couple was in a traditional marriage. My second thought was, when…

Friday Favorites for March 8th

I’ve written a few times about the progress I’ve made in my journey to go green.  While I certainly have a long way to go, I’m not the big-haired, wasteful consumer that I used to be.  And since we all struggle in our journey to do better and be better, I’m continuing my weekly entry of “favorites” that help me day to day.

Mini Trampoline

Honestly, I have never even considered buying a trampoline for my kids.  OK, maybe I did.  But only for about 5 seconds.  I have heard…

Coping With Sandy Hook

Like every other parent in America, I sent my kids off to school yesterday morning with a giant lump in my throat.  The horrific events of Friday's mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School were at the forefront of my mind as I hugged each of my twins as tightly as I could.  A small part of me even wished they were sick so they could stay safe at home with me.  However,…

Out of control...........

A big question always churns up my mind. Why are the kids today so so very out of control. I wonder who's the real culprit !!!  Is it the culture and the atmosphere there are growing in or am I showing signs of withdrawal with age?

My profession says I ought to have a good hold over kids, but its the other way round, they are more rebellious, indifferent and undisciplined, and its bothering me a lot. Why cant there be peace on both sides?

Its overwhelming the…
