How to Throw Your Tween a Crafting Party

Tween Girl turned 10!

If you have tweens, then you know how fickle they can be, especially when it comes to their birthday parties. In previous years, we have done small parties, classroom parties, movie parties, Chuck E. Cheese parties and big parties with family.

I was SUPER excited about this year's party because it involved things Tween Girl and I both love: Crafts!…

January in Review

january in review

The new year has started off on a very busy foot for me. Although there have been a lack of posts in the recent weeks(s) thanks to a super full plate work-wise, parenting-wise, and almost three feet of snow outside, my last blog has made its way around the internet via Facebook posts… Continue

Birthdays, Target, UPS and Lessons Learned

My middle child turns 22 today. It is the first birthday I have ever missed and I am feeling kind of low.

Like most 22 year olds who are living on their own for the first time, all she wants is a gift card to Target so she can buy food and curtains.

So on Monday, I went online and ordered her the gift card and a few extra little things. I paid extra for… Continue

Its time to concentrate and put my thoughts into something viewable

It's weekend!

Thats the first thing me and my colleague said to each other when it was time for all the kids in our classroom to go home.

Weekend means:

  • Getting hugs and kisses from my sons and offcourse: my husband.
  • Thinking of places to visit where my sons can have fun
  • Work on teacher Tilly

After putting my sons to bed, it means that it's now time to get to…

Wishing I Was Upstairs...

And not because I like two-story homes. I actually told my husband many years ago that I NEVER wanted to live in a multi-story dwelling. They don't appeal to me. The extra space. The loftiness. The stacking of life. I'm not a 'bird' person. I like roots. Ground. Stability. Well, relatively speaking.

But whenever you utter the word "never" you get re-aligned by good old destiny. So this is our second home in a two-story. Not on purpose, mind you. It's not like we looked at a bunch of… Continue

Day 2 of my first craft show

So Mom and I show up again on Sunday morning. I'm anxious and wondering if I will sell more today....and I'm guessing all the other vendors are wondering the same thing. Since I managed to make enough on Saturday to pay for my booth I'm not as obsessed today with calculations, mostly just optimistic and excited. Continue Reading

Where are all the people?

So it is day 1 of my very first craft show and my booth is all set up....only 15 minutes past start time. A few people start walking by and looking at my items. It takes awhile before my mom and I realize these are all fellow vendors. Hmmm....will people who came here to MAKE money SPEND money too? Well, if they're anything like us, it's a definite YES. My mom is already scoping it out, Continue…

Holy Craftoly

Holy Craftoly

So it was the day before my very first craft show. In the morning I meticulously.....okay who am I kidding.....I obsessive compulsively checked and rechecked my lists and boxes to make sure I had everything I "needed". Not knowing what to expect, I had compiled lists using suggested guides of "what to bring to…

Can I work from home?

I had a bright idea one day.....since I have a few things to sew anyway AND there is a craft show coming up.....why not sew a few more and try to start a business? 4 months and hours upon hours of work later I'm realizing a little bit of talent and creativity does not a booming business make.

I managed to secure a booth last minute at my very first craft show the week of Thanksgiving. The 2-day show was scheduled for the second week of December. Even though I knew I had a lot of work to…

I am not Martha: Our Gingerbread Shanty

I think of myself as a pretty creative person, decent at crafting and creating. Apparently my crafting niche does not extend to the making of gingerbread houses however. First, I made the icing way too thin, so it took me 3 days and lots of strategic propping to get the house to stand up. I decided not to even attempt to prop up the chimney, so the kids and I put it aside ate it. Then, I made the decorating icing too thin so most of our candy decorations were…

How to Make Homemade Soap

We all use soap. In the old days, most people made their own. Today, we are much more likely to buy it from the store. There are lots of brands to choose from, and each brand has various formulations and scents.

But making your own soap has some definite advantages. One of the most significant is the price. We can make soap much cheaper than we can buy it. Making it ourselves also gives us complete control over the ingredients, so we can create a soap that's perfect for our skin type… Continue
