There are a lot of things we practice in our household (like politeness and shoe tying), because - after all - practice makes perfect. That is not a phrase my son likes to hear. He (like most children) gets frustrated when he is unable to master something on the first try.

My daughter loooves tea parties! She'll have tea parties with all the animals in her room, including any of her brother's toys that may have somehow gotten mixed in. Illy will throw parties for her brothers or bring me little cups of "tea" and "soup" (lukewarm water) while I'm working. She's even gotten the whole family to sit on the floor in the living room for a tea…Continue

Today was an emotional day that has been in the works for weeks. Today we said goodbye to my three year old’s pacifier, which he referred to as “Me-Me”. This was not a new concept to me as he is my third child, but still as emotional as the first.

Establishing a love of reading can be tricky sometimes. Children who would rather run around and be active physically may not see the "fun" in exploring through a story... at first. The key is to choose books that speaks specifically to their interest and personality. Allow them to select which books stand out to them - superheroes, all things locomotives, comedies, comics, holiday themed, etc. As they become excited about what they're reading, they'll want to do it more! Go a step further…Continue

Recently I had the privilege of taking Illy out on a date. We'd been talking about it for a while and were long past due for an outing, but there always seemed to be something else going. "Dates" don't always have to be a big outing, in fact, some of our dates have been a sweet treat and girlie movie. No BOYS allowed! ;) This time, however, I wanted to do something special and…Continue

My crockpot has become a dear friend over the past 6 years... Pretty much when I started having kids. Its so easy to throw all your ingredients in, cover, and the let magic happen. Whether you work outside the home or from inside the home, there's nothing better than to smell the wonderful aroma of your dinner cooking and to know that all you have to do is grab a plate and fork. Sigh. There are a plethora…Continue
One day after school, I took the munchkins out for a treat. It was a sunny day and, as you may know, sunlight can do wonders for a person's mood! We stopped for a snack of cheese fries and ice cream- not the healthiest snack, but it's nice to splurge occasionally ;) After we'd filled our bellies and satisfied our cravings, we walked over to a Goodwill store nearby. The plan was to find me a good book…Continue

It's a weekday and I don't feel like cleaning or cooking... although both of those things need to be done at some point! No, I feel the need to do something fun. Something that I don't really have to set up or tear down. Something that will make me laugh and possibly get in a little exercise at the same time. It's time for a dance party!
I have had multiple occasions when my children look at me as if to say,…Continue
It had been a while since the last time Illy and I had gone on a date. Sure, we'd done things together as a family, but it wasn't concentrated time with just us. We checked out the calendar, selected a date, and put our names in the box. This was our date and Nothing was going to change that... hopefully. Well, the day finally arrived and, although I was already tired from a full day out with all three…Continue
