When Elijah brought home the flyer for a “Me and My Gal” night at his school, I admit – at first I dismissed it as something I didn’t particularly want to do. I doubted that he even paid any attention to the note about a glow-in-the-dark themed…Continue

Recently I had the privilege of taking Illy out on a date. We'd been talking about it for a while and were long past due for an outing, but there always seemed to be something else going. "Dates" don't always have to be a big outing, in fact, some of our dates have been a sweet treat and girlie movie. No BOYS allowed! ;) This time, however, I wanted to do something special and…Continue

It had been a while since the last time Illy and I had gone on a date. Sure, we'd done things together as a family, but it wasn't concentrated time with just us. We checked out the calendar, selected a date, and put our names in the box. This was our date and Nothing was going to change that... hopefully. Well, the day finally arrived and, although I was already tired from a full day out with all three…Continue
When you first think of the word "date," it's easy to assume that it involves two individuals roughly around the same age who are in some type of romantic relationship, whether new or seasoned. While this may be true, "dates" can include kids, too. (preferably not in addition to the two individuals in a romantic relationship- that's what babysitters are for!) Special outings with just one child and…Continue

Today was the big day. We finally had our Valentine's Day Party! As usual, things don't always go as planned, but it all worked out for the best. I planned on having a lot of games, prizes and music, but with the popcorn snack boxes and a house full of mostly boys, I had a feeling it wouldn't be all frills.…Continue

1. Have a picnic. Is it too cold outside? Just lay a blanket out on the living room floor.

As soon as I saw this news story on TV, I looked at my husband. If only...
OK, so it was the PARENTS of the 5 year old who were fined. But, could you believe this? I will be completely honest, I have thought about billing friends and family members who RSVP'd for my anniversary party and…

Every weekend my kids want to have company come over. I'm always reminding them that I don't have a built in card in my brain that automatically stores the contact information for everyone I meet, and neither do they, so they need to physically exchange numbers with their friends. Do they? No, but every weekend we seem to have…Continue

A pregnant mom often begins to feel as if she is going to be pregnant forever during those final weeks of pregnancy. Most moms are miserable, are unable to get comfortable, and sleeping is often difficult due to being uncomfortable. In fact, the closer you get to your due date the more anxious and nervous…Continue

I am looking forward to my date on Friday and Saturday with my husband. We are planning on going away overnight so that we can spend some quality time with each other without any distractions. We feel that is it very important to invest time into our marriage and take the time to remember why we fell in…Continue

I came home today to find my son’s cousins have come over to play for the afternoon. With my son suitably entertained for the time being and my husband on kid patrol, I am comfortably ensconced at my desk with a cup of hazelnut coffee and a croissant slathered in Nutella (what else?) and…Continue

Our schedule has been insane this week and the only down-time we’ve had is nap-time. The rest of the day; morning, afternoon and evening has been filled with pre-school, kids play-dates/Christmas parties, a company Christmas party and a few other night time events too! Brian said to me last night,
“How about a movie night and early bed-time on Friday?“
I will never turn that down; sounds perfect! I declined an invite to a Cookie Exchange…Continue

Ever since we moved into our new neighborhood I've been keeping an eye out for another little girl my daughter's age. I plan to live in this house for awhile and one of my mini dreams for Izzy to grow up with her own BFF. I met a grandmother and granddaughter walking the neighborhood last week that I'm hoping she could become friends with Izzy. It turns out that this little girl has the same name except for an added "A" at the end and has the same birth month.
We've already had…

Imagine a scene from Footloose and you have a basic idea of what my high school prom looked like…without the grain elevator, without the cakes and pies, and without the fighting. But, there were plenty of pastel colored long dresses, and ridiculously pastel ruffled tuxedos. Roses and baby’s breath abounded and everyone was on their best behavior.
