Symptoms to Take Notice of in Children

The NHS has been facing ever-increasing pressures in recent years, with slashed budgets, staff shortages and lack of resources taking its toll on the quality of care. One of the many ways we commonly see the impact of these pressures is in waiting times for GP…

Mother of the Bride Guide

The day you’ve dreamed of for years has finally arrived! Your little girl is all grown up and has chosen a partner to start her life with, and you are officially a MoB -- Mother of the Bride! While congratulatory remarks are appropriate at this juncture, so are a few…

How to Through A Larger Than Life Small Wedding on a Budget

This one is as simple as crowdfunding your honeymoon. It might sound strange at first, but do you really need another blender or set of dinner plates? Instead of having your guests purchase a bunch of things you’ll end up trying to return anyway, why not let them chip in for…

Why I need my Mom to talk to me

I have a girl's weekend at the beach twice a year. It is a relaxing, wonderful time. We work on photo albums, read, catch up on each other's lives and enjoy too much good food. I'm trying to get my Mother to go with me next time and I may have finally won her over.

I want my Mom to join me for several…

Are you an adult?

I am in my mid-thirties. I manage a team of people in a frequently high-pressure industry. I am a wife to a wonderful husband and a mother to a chaotic (aka normal) five year old. But sometimes I do not feel like an adult.…

The democratic family

I often try to involve my son in our family decisions: What do you want to do this weekend?, What do you think we should do about dinner tonight? and even What do you like about this piece of furniture? are all questions that I have asked him within the past week. I ask him about what he wants to eat for lunch while grocery shopping, and I haven't been allowed to choose his clothes since he was three and started to do…

Putting the landing gear on helicopter parents

Are you a cheerleader or a coach?

When our children are little, we are their cheerleaders, praising them for their efforts to learn new skills and to try again when they don't succeed the first time.…

Hold up, wait a Minute!

Who said I had time for your foolishness? "Not I!”, said the girl who's moving and shaking and making things happen. Back up! Give me my space and let me breathe.  The last I checked, time is not stopping or slowing down for no one. One minute I was a feisty, the world can’t stop me now, twenty one year old; next…

To Tell Or Not To Tell

Sunday arrives. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to tell my family or not. I just don’t know what to say or how to say it. Well, let me be honest, my younger sister and my younger brother already know. So basically who’s left to tell are my older sister and older brother and my parents. My older brother won’t be there today, and my older sister is easy going and will probably be excited. She loves babies. My parents are my concern. I have no idea what reaction to expect from them. And…

Freaking Out About Co-Sleeping

In case you’re wondering why I look a little taller today, it’s because I’m standing on my mommy soap box. Check out Mommy DIY if you don’t want to read my statement, otherwise, read on.

I want to be a good mom, I really do, but I have no idea what I am doing! While I was pregnant I studied parenting literature, questioned other moms, and prepared myself for baby. Lately, people just tell me what to do when I’m…

How to do the Right Thing?

If I don't know what to do, I'm learning what not to do:

Don't do what seems right.

Don't do what feels right.

Don't do what someone else would do.

Don't do what's popular.…

WhyMomsRule 2010 Family Travel Survey: Moms Making Sacrifices for Family Travel This Year

In our newly released WhyMomsRule.com poll, 80% of Moms will make some type of sacrifice to ensure their families have a vacation this year. Cost is still the primary concern for Moms, with their view of the economy tempering how they spend the household budget. However, Moms…

If I Could Do it All Over Again

Even though it’s a rainy day, I want to take a drive out to Ohio farm country, specifically to drive by our old house. I expect it to look the same — a little, two-bedroom farmhouse surrounded by mature trees. I had to have that house when I saw the 200-year old shagbark hickories and enormous oaks, the woods, the barn, the long cement driveway lined with peony bushes, the bird houses atop posts planted along the creek that divided our property from a soy field, farmed by a man who goes by the… Continue
