Symptoms to Take Notice of in Children

The NHS has been facing ever-increasing pressures in recent years, with slashed budgets, staff shortages and lack of resources taking its toll on the quality of care. One of the many ways we commonly see the impact of these pressures is in waiting times for GP…

Mother of the Bride Guide

The day you’ve dreamed of for years has finally arrived! Your little girl is all grown up and has chosen a partner to start her life with, and you are officially a MoB -- Mother of the Bride! While congratulatory remarks are appropriate at this juncture, so are a few…

How to Through A Larger Than Life Small Wedding on a Budget

This one is as simple as crowdfunding your honeymoon. It might sound strange at first, but do you really need another blender or set of dinner plates? Instead of having your guests purchase a bunch of things you’ll end up trying to return anyway, why not let them chip in for…

The resentment breeding in the sink

When I was little, I went to Girl Scout camp over the summers. The week-long camps were at a really nice facility with a huge mess hall filled with square tables that sat 5-6 girls. After every meal, the entire table would pick Popsicle sticks with chores written on them: Wash dishes; dry dishes; wipe down table; sweep floor; table runner (who got the washing bins for the table and put everything away afterward).…

The real reason dishes aren’t done (today)

My husband’s biggest pet peeve with me is that the dishes never seem to get done.  The house can be spotless, the kids are still alive and thriving and yet if there are dishes stacked in the sink then the whole world is going to end.

A while ago I followed the organizational guru The Fly Lady, who’s first step…

Something's Gotta Give

funny-dirty-laundry

As a parent, we're often so used to running on autopilot that we rarely ever even stop to think about why we're doing something.  We just continue to do it mindlessly, day after day after day.  Take, for instance, the gazillion and one loads of never-ending laundry and the gazillion and one loads of multiplying…

I'm Mangry, not Crazy

I love my honey boo, my male, my better half, my baby, my "mayan". The one who helps me when I don’t ask, the person that supports every new idea that I…

Moms’ Timeout Show: Simplifying Thanksgiving (includes a Giveaway)

Calling all moms! As moms we are no stranger to the act of giving.  However, at Thanksgiving we moms tend to have a different type of challenge. The challenge of finding the balance between perfection and reality, so that Thanksgiving can be enjoyed by all, including mom. Sometimes we get too caught up in the Norman Rockwell or Martha Stewart illusion of Thanksgiving.  And that is precisely what it is, an illusion.  In this segment of Moms’ Timeout will be discussing ways to simplify…

IF YOU LET THE CHILDREN DO THE DISHES....

On Saturday, while my Husband and I were doing our respective chores, the children, especially the older two, were getting pretty restless.  To prevent them from grumping and whining, to give him some peace of mind while doing the bills, and to keep them busy, my Husband told them to go and wash the dishes.  I followed to watch them do this chore and to supervise them from a distance.  I brought my camera with me.  Who knows what hanky-panky, errrr, fun, I might have missed recording without…

Things I've Learned This Week

** Kids pick the most awesomely inopportune times to take a dump.

** Summer = an impromptu game of kick-the-can on a random Monday night.

** Goatdog is about to become a street dog.

** I wouldn't do well in that Little House on the Prairie.

** If Tuesday and Wednesday had a Facebook page, I would NOT…

Does No One See the Cat Shit on the Floor?

I am not a neat freak. I have written about this before, and I can tolerate a fair amount of mess around the house, but when there have been dishes sitting in the sink for four days and everyone has been walking by them as if they don’t exist...when it wasn’t my job to clean them up in the first…
