DIY Halloween for the Non-Crafty Person

I will be the first to admit that Halloween is probably my least favorite festivity. But that does not mean I am a party pooper. Au contraire! With two young girls in the house, I have to keep my ghoulish spirits up during this time of year.

And although I can’t say either that I am a very crafty person, I do like to do fun projects with my girls who love being creative. So, this year I searched for a few simple things for us to do together and I came up with some great…

I have been coming across blogs here and there about the stress of having their children home for the summer months. And I can’t help but wonder why. Summer is such a wonderful time of the year. There is so much to do. Homeschooling changes your view on things.

Fava Greens and Fava Beans

Sometimes I feel so incredibly small. Swallowed by the sea of information I attempt to swim in each day. The internet does that to me sometimes. Makes me feel even tinier in scope of the big picture.

I'm one of those types of people who keep turning around, mouth agape, ready to try something new that's caught my fancy. And yet, sometimes I don't feel like I'll ever master anything. I love sewing...but don't get around to it often. I love embroidery, but can't remember the last time I… Continue

Easy Bake Oven is a Hot Mess

Whoever invented the Easy Bake Oven should be forced to eat nothing but Easy Bake foods for the rest of his life. These things have been around for almost 50 years. You'd think someone would have figured out by now that it's more fun to buy some real cookie mix, bake it in the real oven, and actually eat the cookies. The stuff that comes out of that cheap plastic, light-bulb heated contraption isn't even close to food. It's like some kind of dehydrated space food from NASA.

Here is my… Continue

Sweet Fig Appetizer

Figs are in season right now. I bet you have a neighbor that has a fig tree and is drowning in figs. We went over to our neighbors a couple of days ago and picked sweet figs until my fingers were sticky. I love eating them outright and I also enjoy canning them into fig jam or…

Not-So-Organic Summer Meal

Yes. It’s been hot here.

No. This recipe is not altogether organic.

Nor is it superbly healthy, complicated or beautiful.

But beware if you’re pregnant, hungry, or looking for a quick-filling meal on a hot day. This one takes but a few moments to prepare and requires no patience at all. Unless you don’t have access to Fritos (or some similar corn chip). Do not ask me how many of these we consumed while I was pregnant. Glenn should be a big fan. Just…

Molasses Oats Recipe

Every few months I get these cravings for sweets. I’m not a big-time sweets-eater. Not sure if it’s because my mom didn’t feed us many sugary foods while we were young or if I wasn’t wired to love desserty foods…but back to my point, every few months I can’t seem to finish a meal without salivating for a sweet bite afterward.

That’s been my life this past week.

Eat lunch. Hmmmm…any chocolate chips left in the freezer?

Eat dinner. Oooh, a bite of ice cream…

How to Make a Simple Sock Puppet

The weather’s heating up here in Southern California. We’re fortunate to live just a mere 20-minute drive above the valley below because temperatures easily pass 100 degrees daily in the summer. As you climb the mountain, you literally watch the temperature gauge in the car drop degree by degree, till you arrive at home. A decent 15-20 degrees cooler simply because we’re at 5,000 feet.

But it still gets hot up here in the mountains.

And the hot weather…
