Last night, the kids and I had the opportunity to pack some lunches for the West Suburban PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) organization. This non-profit agency gives emergency food and shelter to individuals and families in the West Suburban Cook County area. They operate a shelter every Tuesday night and provide lunches for the next day. There are many PADS programs available all over with some even supplying permanent housing and supportive services for their…Continue
Okay. If I haven't made this point clear in the past, let me try again.
People are INUNDATED with information, 24 x 7. If yours doesn't have the potential to minimally raise an eyebrow, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!
I've experienced this firsthand in my own entrepreneurial endeavors and it never ceases to amaze me how some people just don't care about contributing to the overload. They have something to say and darn it, it shall be said. The only problem is, oftentimes, NOBODY…Continue

Okay, so about a week ago I wrote a post about email marketing techniques. Remember...I said I wanted to figure out a way to get people to actually open my newsletter? On my big BOOK LAUNCH DAY???
Well, here are the results of my efforts. Out of 229 recipients, 45.4% opened the email. That is a ROCKING number, folks!!!! The industry average, according to Mail Chimp, is 16.9%.
This is what I learned.
A sexy title with the…Continue
How many mailing lists do you subscribe to? Of all the emails that clutter your inbox, how many do you actually read or even OPEN, for that matter?
I'm sure the number is looooooooow. (It certainly is for me.)
So why bother sending them? They'll probably get deleted on sight anyway, right?
But if there is even a SLIGHT possibility a subscriber might actually take a minute to peruse the content, you better yank them in immediately otherwise any hope of…Continue

Maybe it's just me, but the end of the school year always seems to bring with it a boatload of unwanted stress. Finding a "place" for all the papers that are sent home, trying not to drown in the flood of never-ending emails, buying the gazillion and one thank you gifts -- IT NEVER EVER…Continue

It is not only the time of year when we decorate the house, buy and wrap presents for everyone on our list, bake goodies, entertain friends and family and attend Christmas parties (I am exhausted already), but it is also the time to send out the obligatory Christmas card!
As the countdown begins, the pressure is on to get those Christmas cards labeled, posted and mailed in order for…Continue

I have three email addresses. One is personal, one is for business, and one is a hybrid of the two. I religiously check them everyday, and sometimes they are full of emails from friends, or emails from myself reminding me to do this or that. But, many times they are just full of crap.

Make email management easy by viewing all of your email accounts via the feature on the iPhone or iTouch.
These days many of us have multiple email accounts. At the minimum we have one for work and one for personal use. Most likely you have many for personal use and maybe even a couple for work. It is easy to waste a lot of time logging in and going through email in each of these different accounts.…Continue

After I received the lovely email from my husband about the water heater being ready to burst, we decided to shut off the hot water for the rest of the evening until the repairman could come out and fix it.
Anna and I decided to go to my parent's house which is about 40 minutes
away and eat dinner and take our baths for the evening.
The spicy smells of Italian cooking on the stove tickled my nose as we walked in to my parent's house. Anna…Continue
