I’ve recently had to put myself on a social media diet in order to prevent myself from going totally insane with the stresses of life and the state of our country. I’ve had to do a little trimming of people and organizations that I follow on Facebook to prevent “Breaking News” stories from plaguing my time line.
There is only so many times a day I can care about the new Kardasian love interest or baby daddy.
And everyone knows that politics is my thing, but I have stopped…Continue

I have two t-shirts that I thought I had specially made just for fun. The first one was shortly before my wedding. I had it made to say "Mrs. XXXXX" (but instead of the Xs, it was my husband's name). The second was right after my son was born and it says XXXXXX's Mom (but instead of the Xs, it has my son's name).…Continue

I know alot of folks ask why should I have a business page versus a personal profile but there are some benefits.
Facebook business page benefits:
1) When posting to your business page you can choose to post as yourself or as your business page. Make sure you are posting as your business page. After you post you can comment or like your post as yourself by changing the "liking and commenting" option to yourself. This will make the post visible in your newsfeed for your…Continue

As previously mentioned, I am not a Facebook user. (And, for the record, I have no problem with people who are avid Facebook users as long as they understand the site's policies.) I know how the site works as I used to have to monitor my company's account. When I did the monitoring, I had lots of internal conversations about data tracking with my bosses. So, I was very intrigued to read how well Facebook knows who you are with just your…Continue

Do you know what your kids are doing for summer fun? Have you heard them talking about food challenges? Have they mentioned the chubby bunny game, the choking game, or burns? If you have heard them talking about any of these activities, they may be involved in potentially dangerous activities or know someone else who is involved in risky behaviors.
The activities listed in this blog can be an issue year-round, however the risk to children and teens during the summer months is…Continue

Did you know that you could have a stranger in your home right at this moment that you are completely unaware is present? If you or anyone in your home is communicating online or through texting with someone you do not know personally, then you are opening your home to a stranger. Technology can be a wonderful tool, but it also can open our families, our children included, to new dangers.
A recent poll indicated that 90 percent of middle and high school student have…Continue

Looking through my newsfeed on facebook today freaked me out. I have just had it with the newborn pictures. It inspired a blog post rant. I hope you enjoy. Even if you have put your newborn in a rose and taken pictures, I hope you can find the humor in here!

I am by no means an expert when it comes to having a successful blog. My version of success when I started was a goal to have 1,000 followers and 20,000 views within a year. Within two years I wanted to make money off my blog either by means of a book, advertising or having my blog in a newspaper where I was being paid.
Here I am, just about seven months in and I will tell you what I've learned and how far I've gotten. Why? Because people have asked me for advice or are just…Continue

Happy Belated Mother’s Day! As a mom, you know how hard it is to stay connected to your teen—especially if your teen has a busy online life in addition to all the activities and events they are participating in offline. I encourage parents to be involved in the online communities of their teens—especially when it comes to Facebook.
“Friending” your child on Facebook is just the first step. The next step is making sure you keep this “Friend” connection alive and…Continue

I talk about myself a lot. But then again, this is the place to do so. This is MY blog.
On Twitter I am known as DCWorkingMommy. Why? Because I am a mommy who works in Washington, D.C. Clever, no?
I don’t talk about the specifics of what I do, however I share some of the drama that I sometimes encounter.

What I’m about to share with you are the facts of my interactions with Facebook yesterday, supported by screenshots. I’ve drawn my own conclusions, I’m sure you’ll draw yours. I’m sharing this with you this morning not because I’m pissed, because I’m not anymore, but as a warning to you. As you can see, I’ve removed my sidebar for this post. I want your attention focused.
