The way we view failure

My son walked in while I was getting ready for work and said, "Mommy, I have some questions about ancient Egypt that I would like to talk about."

Of course he does.…

Do You Fail Well?

Happy Friday everyone!

Here's a question to all you self-proclaimed entrepreneurs out there - How long does it take you to get back on the proverbial horse once you've been bucked??

Check out this great little clip from Barbara Corcoran on the secret to handling rejection.

It's not about how many times you fall, it's about how quickly you get back up that counts. And by "get up quickly," I mean, how enthusiastic are you to potentially fall again? Are you excited to move…

Miscarriage – Understanding the Causes and Symptoms

Did you know that around 30-50% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage?  Wow, the number of pregnancies that end in miscarriage is so high.  However, most of the miscarriages end before a woman even finds out she is expecting and often go undetected.  Most miscarriages happen before a woman even knows she is…

Failure Is An Option

If there's one thing I've learned from having a kid, it's how to fail. Not in some dramatic way. I'm certainly not perfect, but I don't think I'm a total failure as a mother or anything. I've just learned how to fail at the little things. Every day.

We have a pretty regular failure routine. I think of something that Eliza could do that would be convenient for me. I try to get her to do it. She refuses. I try again. She refuses again. This happens at least one hundred…

Serene Sunday - Lessons for Our Children - It's OK to Fail

Serene Sunday - it is important to teach our children it is ok to fail and then keep going.

Fearing Failure

I’ve had to do some hard things in my life; I listened on the phone as my doctor told me I had breast cancer, then somehow managed to catch a flight from San Francisco to New York to be at my breast surgeon’s office the next morning; I’ve buried a husband…scattered his ashes in the ocean off the coast of Nova Scotia; I’ve flown to Russia… Continue

How a Little Boy Named Stellan Made Me a Better Mother

I learned about Jennifer and Stellan a few days ago, and that sweet little boy has been on my mind since then. Jennifer’s beautiful blog, My Charming Kids, is actually one of the first mom blogs I ever came across seven months ago when I started my blog, but I hadn’t checked in until a tweet by another mom caught my attention. Stellan, one of four, is her nine-month-old adorable little boy who has heart failure, and Jennifer blogs about their difficult and heart-breaking journey every day. More… Continue

Let Them Eat Cake!!!

Now, I'm no ace of cakes.....but, I can make a pretty pastry if I do say so myself.

I've been making cakes for about 15 years now. It started with a class at an arts and crafts supply store and has become a long lasting hobby. Since my first cake ( a dalmatian cake for my daughter's third birthday) I've crated a litany of cakes. Wedding cakes, birthday cakes, shower cakes, baptism cakes....cakes with flowers, cakes with motorcycles, cakes with cartoon characters, cakes with… Continue
