Did I mention how much I'm hating this diet? Ok, well I don't "hate" it, but damn it, it's ruining my social life!
In my line of work, networking is very important. One of the places most networking or socializing takes place, is at a restaurant. I am not the type of person to walk into a restaurant with my snack bag filled with raw nuts watching…

Keeping up with this new dieting experience, I had to pick up a few items I kept forgetting to look for. Who knew Walmart and the local grocery stores sold organic food? I know, I know...that's a given. But, I never had an interest in them because I assumed the price would be way to high for my piggy bank. That was definitely true when considering the price of items at the grocery and "real" food grocery stores with the price…Continue

Day 1 (April 29, 2013): I started the morning excited. I made my strawberry smoothie, following the recipe to the 'T', but after the blender stopped blending and the time came for me to put my smoothie into a cup, I realized the size of my drink was a lot smaller than what I was expecting. Goodness, so the drinks sold at restaurants must be 4 servings in one.…Continue

The Fast Metabolism Diet Book by Haylie Pomroy arrived at my doorstep on April 23rd, and I spent a day trying to figure out which one of my family members thought I was so fat they needed to send me a diet book. It wasn't until I was checking emails this morning that I realized this book actual arrived courtesy of SheSpeaks, for me to review. I read the front, then the back. Everything looked good so far, then I opened up the…Continue

One of the top New Year’s Resolutions has to be along the lines of losing weight, getting fit and eating healthier. We make these resolutions with the very best of intentions but then life gets in the way. Our bosses need us to stay late at the office. The kids get sick. We stress about gathering our tax…Continue

Ok, so I know I just heated up a plate of food in the microwave. I remember grabbing my plate and my glass of water and walking towards the office so I could eat while doing a little work on the computer. I remember taking that first bite, but damn...where did the rest of my food go?
This must be that moment of self awareness I've been hearing about. The time when…

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
A poem by the great Langston Hughes.…

...When people told me to enjoy the moments of her childhood because they grow up too fast, I rolled my eyes. As I first struggled as a single mother, then with her diagnosis of her reactive attachment disorder, there were many times her childhood couldn’t end fast enough.

I am a bit obsessive when it comes to feeding my kids. When I start looking at labels and realizing that EVERYTHING they eat has sugar, salt, and disgusting chemicals it just makes me crazy! Even so-called "healthy" foods like yogurt and granola bars are loaded with refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup. It makes me want to move to a cabin in the woods and feed the kids…Continue

Finally! Our representatives have grown a pair and have drawn a line in the sand against the fast food industry, on our behalf. In a nearly unanimous vote by city officials, fast food operators in San Francisco can no longer give away toys in kid's meals, unless they meet certain standards...much higher than what these restaurants…Continue

Are the curly fries REALLY that good? Does my husband REALLY want a roast beef sandwich THAT bad? Because I want to protect the innocent, I will stop describing this fast food chain right there, but, trust me, it ain't Chick-Fil-A. It seems that the last few times I have frequented this little fast food dining establishment, I always get the same guy at the check-out window. This needs to stop niz-ow. He is freaking me out. Here is a sample of our conversation the last time I was…Continue
