Engine 24: Fire Stories 3 by Joe Corso

Wonderful compulsive reading.

FIRE STORIES 3

About the book: The final book in the Engine 24 Fire Stories trilogy focuses on the more turbulent times that firefighters had to endure in New York City during the years 1963 to 1975.

In this book, the era of Kennedy’s assassination, race riots, and looting are related through the eyes of a NYC firefighter. Joe Corso describes…

Family game night: AKA Fight Night

We like to play games in our family: Board games and card games have taken over our Wednesday evenings. My son is now old enough to enjoy UNO (he loves skipping people), and Go Fish, and he has long been an expert at Candy Land and Hi-Ho Cherry-O. I love that these games teach him how to take turns and follow the rules and that everyone loses sometimes. As he gets older, I have visions of us playing Clue and Life and popping up some…

Engine 24 Fire Stories 2 by Joe Corso

Amazing stories from a retired fire fighter.

Product Details

About the book: Every firefighter has a treasure trove of interesting stories to tell and the stories more often than not are instructional as well as exciting. When I was a firefighter, I kept notes of the fires I responded to. Now that I am retired, I have reflected on my career as a firefighter and have written a second book about the men alongside…

Happy Holidays, A-holes!!!

Ah, it's the holiday season -- that magical time of the year when you wanna sip hot cocoa by the fire and shove people outta the way for a deal on a flat-screened t.v.  Cause let's be real, y'all.  December tends to turn the very best of us into giant assholes.

Every year I tell myself I'm not gonna get swept up into all the hoopla of running here, there and…

Trying Thursday

If you've read my Mission Statement, Dreams & Goals you'll know that I want SHH to be a place where no masks are worn and all are loved. If you haven't read it, you can find it here. Today I'm being honest, no masks ;)

This week has been crazy for us. Being a stay at home family, we tend to move at a much slower pace than most. My son has been attending cub scout camp all…

The Family Portrait

It's kinda hard to believe, but the Nucking Futs clan has never ever had a professional family photo taken.  Sure, we've had the kids photographed out the yin yang but never with my husband and me.  So this past weekend, we decided to take advantage of the unbelievably gorgeous fall weather and round up our crew for a picture at the beach.

Given that…

How to Keep Your Kids From Murdering Each Other This Summer

So if you're anything like me, you're trying your damnedest to find something for your kids to do so that they don't kill each other over summer vacation.  And that "something" would preferably be an activity that keeps 'em occupied for a long stretch of time, perhaps even long enough for Mama to have a well-deserved glass of wine and maybe even *gasp* take a pee in…

Temporary stay at home mom, and that's ok with me.

Two kids, two stints as a temporary stay at home mom….otherwise known as maternity leave.  My second “vacation” as many ignorant people around me prefer to call my time off is coming to a close.  Back to being a slave to the man next week.  I have mixed emotions.  I love my children.  I have…

The Bedroom Battleground - The Fight That Every Couple Has!

Original Posting at NewlyParents.com

It's a battle that is fought every night by every couple in the world on some level. Some battles are more fierce than others. Some end in bloodshed while others end in complete tyrannical takeover. The people that used to occupy a space are ousted from their homes and forced to seek refuge somewhere else (usually the couch). Adding a twist… Continue
