I like to eat all types of food. What do you expect? I'm a half Trinidadian, 1/2 Puerto Rican woman who grew up with a Jamaican Stepfather who was a chef. Living in NY I had endless options when it came to food. NY is a Cultural melting pot. I frequented restaurants that served American food, loved Italian food and placed orders often at Chinese restaurants, lol. Man, my mouth is watering just thinking about…Continue

Me and my husband, we love to eat! :-D We love to cook (well, my husband does, I just bake), we love to go out for a delicious dinner and when choosing a travel destination, good food is a must.
Compared to other parents who I hear are complaining that they haven’t eaten outbecause of their baby for months, I must…Continue

I know several moms who have multiple children with active schedules. Those Moms spend their evenings and weekends chauffeuring their children to various sports activities, musical activities and dance lessons. I'm always amazed by that (think of the planning and coordination that takes), and I usually have one question for them: Where do you find the time for dinner?…Continue

When faced with vegetables, my son has come up with a go-to phrase:
"I'm just not meant to eat vegetables, Mommy."

The rice comes in two forms. You can choose the packet or the box. The packet takes only 90 seconds to cook, but the boxed rice takes about 45 minutes to make. From a list of options, I decided to try the 'Seven Grain Shrimp Bowl' recipe, except with the Indian Rice Blend and omitting the ingredients my family would not want, red peppers for example. This way, dinner would be ready quickly!…

When I hear the word Campbell’s my mind goes back to a simpler time. A time when the biggest decision of the day was what type of cereal I should have for breakfast. When my day would consist of play and not coming home till the street light came on, when there were no iPhones, emails to check, or bills to pay. When I hear the word Campbell’s I think of childhood and warm tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches, warm cheesy chicken casseroles, etc. Campbell’s was definitely a…Continue
When I was a kid, I had the kind of mother who would make cooking a big family event. We'd all get stuck in, slicing potatoes, cracking eggs, whipping up some unholy concoction in a bowl bigger than our heads. It was a great environment and soon the kitchen became a place of real community and laughter. The only time arguments occurred was when we were baking and everyone wanted to lick the batter out of the bowl at the end. There was a strict rota system for bowl-licking and an even…Continue

If you haven't been paying attention, I love peanut butter. I cannot quite describe my love of peanut butter accurately, but let me just say that if I was positive my husband wouldn't look at me funny, I would eat it straight from the jar with a spoon in front of him. (I may or may not have done this outside of his eyesight; I'm not…Continue

I'm a big advocate of eliminating artificial colors (aka food dyes) from our children's diet. Why? Well, it's because I have first hand experience with the negative effects on my two sons' behavior and attention span. It started when my oldest son was only two years old. I noticed how he would go from cooperative and having an active (i.e. busy but not atypical for a 2 year old child) behavior, to bizarrely defiant and hyperkinetic behavior for the next two or three…Continue

A few weeks ago, we started letting our son serve himself his own food at dinnertime. Up until that point, I would bring him his pre-plated food and be met with a barrage of complaints…Continue

When I was able to eat hot lunches at school, there were limited options. We ate the food that the kindly nuns made for us. Actually, I am pretty sure the nuns didn’t cook, but it was Catholic school, so you never know.
The point is, we didn’t have options.
But some schools do give children a choice in what they select for meals, which fascinates me. I can see the boys and girls lining up in the cafeteria, deciding between roast beef or spaghetti. Between carrots or tater tots.…Continue

Sometimes, a gal just wants a burger. Now, my husband makes a great burger - tasty and juicy and perfectly grilled. But, if he's not around (or it's crazy cold outside), I'll do some quick Mom math in my head:
(my craving level x number of days since I had fast food / servings of healthy food and exercise that week)…Continue
Sometimes my mom let us eat cake for breakfast. (Maybe "let us eat cake" is the wrong phrase. Maybe I should say "turned a blind eye while we devoured leftover cake.") It wasn't often, but it's something I have vivid and fond memories of from my childhood. (Now that I think about it, I am pretty sure she was eating that cake with us. So, thanks, Mom!)
So, I think of that…Continue

A little while ago, I had the opportunity to try a Bestowed Healthy Product Sample Box. I was curious to see what the box would contain and how much my taste buds would appreciate the different samples...there were some hits and definitely some misses!
I was given another chance to try a Bestowed, this time it would be samples of 100% GMO-Free…
