Baby Showers: The Next Big Thing

Like so many modern celebrations, Baby Showers have arrived in the UK from North America. It’s a real tradition over there and, like High School Proms, Halloween and Black Friday, one of those exciting social events that is catching on big time over here.

The idea is simple but universally appealing. Throw a party for the pregnant mother and her…

Monetizing Your Mom Blog is Easier Than Ever With Media.net

As a new generation of influencers crop up on the net and veteran bloggers continue to idealize the way for interacting with brands and getting paid, companies the world over are vying for the attention of both. Some are wooing bloggers with the prospect of lucrative affiliate deals while others pile influencers with products for reviews, added with a monetary benefit. Some companies are flying…

Leave the Colors in the Crayon Box

Recently, I did a post that included a recipe for homemade Macaroni & Cheese.  In that post, I was discussing the backlash that Kraft is receiving because of its refusal to eliminate artificial dyes in their American version of Macaroni & Cheese.  The reason I say “American version” is because they have…

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

As my beloved Chicago Cubs celebrate their Opening Day, I thought I’d talk today about making healthier choices at the ballpark.  As a baseball fan and someone who used to work in professional baseball, I can tell you that part of the overall experience is the food and drink.  It just isn’t realistic to expect anyone…

It's Not Rocket Science

Last week, I did a post about the child obesity epidemic in the United States.  In that post, the first point I wanted to make is that food is fuel.  When you realize that very fact, it becomes easier to make better choices.   It’s all about how you view yourself.

If you could buy yourself a brand new car and money was not an option, what kind of car would it be?  Visualize that car.  Imagine yourself in the driver’s seat.  Take in that “new car” smell – actually don’t…

Kraft Ain't Got Nothin' On THIS Mac 'N Cheese

There has been a whole lot in the news lately about Kraft Foods and their boxed macaroni and cheese.  And with good reason.  Ever wonder what gives the product its golden, “cheesy” color?  Artificial dyes my friend.  I mean, come on.  The “cheese” is a yellow powder that you mix with milk and butter.

But here’s the kicker.  Several other countries have banned these artificial dyes and refused to sell any products containing them.  So did that mean that these European boys and girls…

The 411 on GMO's

If I were to ask the majority of people in my little community what they know about GMO, most of them would probably say “not much”.  A few (sadly) would likely say “you mean the car company?”  Sure, you chuckle but it’s true.  Most people have no clue what a GMO is or why it would be important to them.

So, I decided to put something together for the average Joe that explains what a GMO is and why there’s so much in the news on this subject right now.  They say “knowledge is power”,…

Children - The New Faces of Obesity

It’s no secret that obesity is a problem in the United States.  And in spite of the fact that a hunger problem exists as well, our population as a whole eats more and moves less than the citizens of other countries.  Sadly, it’s no longer just affecting adults, but children as well.  Even though medicine has made huge strides and people, on average, are living longer, it has been said that today’s generation of children and teenagers may not live as long as their parents will.  So,…

Fussy About Fruit

I know that my son gets plenty of vitamins because he takes a fantastic supplement and I “hide” vegetables and fruits in just about everything (might have to do a post about that).  But when it comes to eating fruits and vegetables in their natural state, it’s all about the “dip”.

He doesn’t like apple slices unless there is peanut butter involved.  Forget about carrots if there is no ranch dressing.  Salad?  Better have some raspberry vinaigrette.  I should be glad, I know but I…

Green on the Cheap

When I made the decision, really made the decision, to adopt a greener lifestyle, I had people say to me “I’d love to go green but I can’t afford it.”  Have you ever said that?  Thought that?  If so, I will refrain from telling you what I said in return.

The point is that if you think about it,…

Why Sleep Can Be Your Waistline's Best Friend

One of the top New Year’s Resolutions has to be along the lines of losing weight, getting fit and eating healthier.  We make these resolutions with the very best of intentions but then life gets in the way.  Our bosses need us to stay late at the office.  The kids get sick.  We stress about gathering our tax…
