It's dinnertime, and I am preparing two meals. I find that I do this frequently enough that I question my sanity, but not often enough that I stop doing it. I would like to prepare just one meal - one that my whole family enjoys, but that doesn't happen every day of the week, so two meals it is.…Continue

It was Thanksgiving Day and all of my homemade pumpkin soup and pumpkin puree I had so tirelessly prepped during the week and froze cracked, broke, and poured into my tiny freezer. I was preparing dinner entirely by myself for the first time since Terry was volunteering at the homeless shelter, so fter a few choice words on my list of horrible experiences involving pretty much all of my recent experiences with Ball quart jars, I was forced to resort to the quick and easy…

In this blog post I wanted to give a shout-out to fat burning foods and how they can help you slim down fast without breaking the bank. I see so many people get caught up buying pills and programs that cost the earth and do little (if anything) to improve your health and lose weight. It's total rubbish and it drives me nuts! Yes, there are genuine products that can help you lose weight, like whey/vegan protein powder, but there's also no shortage of rubbish. The good news…Continue

You've heard that there are many benefits to family meal planning, but there are also many challenges. First, it’s difficult to plan a family menu for a whole week. How do you keep from duplicating the same meals over and over? Second, your family’s schedule may be very hectic with no one in the same place at…Continue

Women place a lot of faith in expensive moisturizers and wrinkle creams, waiting months for them to do what the label promises. Surprisingly though, research is consistently showing that eating certain foods will beautify your skin from the inside out without the cost of those high-priced items…Continue

Did you know that one in five children across America is overweight? We are in the midst of yet another woeful statistic, and that is that childhood obesity has already reached epidemic proportions. The probability these children will follow this unhealthy pattern into adolescence and adulthood…Continue

I like to say "round" instead of stage or trial, since we're in this for the long baby led weaning fight. We'll be patient and we'll be diligent in our efforts. I say "we" but it is really like a boxing match- it all depends on the other person (in this case: Bambina). Even though I'm being a rebel by skipping all the purees and cereals, I am taking the usual 3-4 days in between introducing new foods in case there are any funky allergic-like reactions.
Sillyboy, as an infant,…Continue

It's exciting, entering the big bad world of introducing SOLID FOOD to my baby. We've been at it since she was 6 months (now 9 months) and have been "mostly" sailing along smoothly.
I can see already though how some might encounter some bumps in the road. I find my daughter gets bored easily with the same foods and is constantly looking for something new.

I wanted to mention a few things I have changed in our home: I started to use raw honey, gluten-free products, and non-toxic, natural sunblock and deodorant.
After learning about the amazing properties of raw, local honey, that’s all I use now for my tea and when one of us has a soar throat. Honey has been proven to work just as well as cough medicine, so I always have it in the house.
