How Can I Determine if My Baby is Allergic to Formula or Dairy Products in Breast Milk?

If you read my blog post yesterday about “Does My Baby Need a Specialty Formula?“, you probably noticed that I briefly mentioned that some mom’s felt that their baby seemed to be having issues digesting the cow’s milk formula (regular formula).  Allergies are on the rise  and more parents are…

Does My Baby Need a Specialty Formula?

Yesterday day I wrote a post called “Choosing the Right Type of Formula for Your Baby?”  If you read this post, you will find out how overwhelming it can be to pick a formula for your child.  Most parents start out with a cow’s milk based formula which is tolerated by most babies.  Some…

Choosing the Right Type of Infant Formula for Your Baby?

When I was pregnant with my each one of my children, I knew from the beginning that I was planning on breastfeeding my babies.  Breastfeeding was a personal preference and I realize that not everyone wants to or can breastfeed their baby.  I am the type of person who urges new…

Supplementing to Exclusive Breastfeeding

After approximately 2 weeks after delivering my daughter I started having breastfeeding complications. I was in so much pain that I just couldn't have her on my breasts, I had to start giving her the bottle. Following the recommendation I received from a lactation consultant, I rented a hospital grade breast pump to keep my supply until I was ready to breastfeed again.…

Breast is Best, But Not For Everyone

When I think of women and our relationship with each other it seems to be love/hate. In our competitive society it seems that woman longs for that friendship and understanding that only another woman can offer. Yet we give in to judgment of that same kin. This kind of relationship spreads beyond being a woman and translates into all female roles, including and especially motherhood. It seems that truly…

Battle of the Brands: Part II (Formula debate)

Battle of the Brands: Part II

A little over a month ago, I wrote a post on how baby formula was equivalent to brand name formulas such as Similac and Enfamil. When Hunter came into this world, I was torn between what the doctors, nurses, and friends were telling me what I should do, and what was right for me. When it was all said and done, I went down the formula path, and in the end It was the perfect choice. You can read that post… Continue

The Case Against Breastfeeding in the Atlantic

So--did you catch that piece by Hanna Rosin? It's in the April 2009 issue. I find it unfortunate; contrived; one-sided with very questionable research tactics. And just plain sad. Apparently Hanna Rosin felt like a parasite for intimating she was so OVER breastfeeding. Who made her feel this way (besides herself)? Other mommies, she claims, breastfeeding-nazi-mommies at her local park.

As the baby books tell you these days, including La Leche League's The Womanly Art of… Continue
