Many women seek a gay man as a BFF for several reason including, but not limited to: the security of male companionship without worrying about sexual advances, harmless flirting with no expectations, and total honesty to relationship insights. I have all of these BFF qualities with my friend, Jordan, except that he’s straight. Jordan and I met in college, where we…Continue

Fantastic Friday - sometimes the most fantastic thing you can do for a friend is to speak frankly.
In this, the third in our Fantastic Friday friendship celebration series, I am writing about the importance of being frank with a friend. It is important to be frank when dealing with friends because sometimes our friends do things that are inappropriate, unacceptable or wrong. When our friends begin traveling of onto the wrong path we need to have a frank discussion and tell…

Fantastic Friday - it is fantastic to have a friend you can lean on.
In this week's Fantastic Friday post, we are once again celebrating friendship and being the kind of friend someone can lean on. We all have experienced times when we could not go on without help. As human beings we have dealt with all kinds of hard things, job loss, death of a child or parent, illness or even divorce. During those hard times some people come close to giving up, to surrendering to loss and…Continue

http://www.andbabymakes2.co.il "… acquire for yourself a friend ".It says in Pirkei Avot, (Ethics of our Fathers) … וקנה לך חבר". From everything I've heard, read and listened to, the biggest problem mothers have, especially single mothers, even more than the sleeplessness, the financial hardship, and the loneliness is asking for help.
It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? Well in theory it is. But, after close to twenty years, of…

For those of you unfamiliar with IVF in Israel, here is a brief description of the process. The procedure is done in private hospitals. The frozen sperm is kept in public hospitals. So the obvious question is how does it get from one hospital to the other? Well, this is Israel; and while I hear lots of olim (new immigrants) complain about the bureaucracy, having lived in the United States as…Continue

Wait.. not *that* kind of a cougar!
My son's school's mascot is a Cougar, and today was Cougar Day, basically a field day for the kids. Lucas acted up at every opportunity: running onto the field during crab soccer, stealing hula hoops from the girls, throwing tantrums when I picked him…

I am running down the hall. In the living room there is a party going on and women are dancing to the music. I’m nervous. Very very nervous. One of the women calls to me. Suuuusaaaaan. Its yooooouuurr turrrrnnn! She has a feather boa in her hands and she wants me to shimmy my way into the center of the circle and…Continue

An old friend of mine recently chopped her finger off.
It wasn’t intentional and it wasn’t her whole finger, but it was a nice chunk. She was trimming plants in her garden and trimmed her thumb right off along with a stem. Ugh! It must have been awful!
This happened while I…

** Your cabin fever's reached Code Red when you're jealous of the squirrels outside breathing in all that fresh, freezing cold air.
** Trying to work a crossword puzzle when you're tired just makes you feel stupid. And tired.
** I've washed my hands so many times over the past few days that I may no longer have fingerprints.

Husband and MiR (Mom in Rome) in bed right before sleeping.
Husband: " Did you realize that baby Giulia will be born on June 16, the same day as Massimo?"
For those few ladies who haven't been reached by Massimo's fame (weird thing by the way), I must explain that not only he's one of Husband's best friends....but more than that, he's the most active…Continue

Sometimes it takes getting away to come back to yourself again.
What better way to raise your spirits than to spend a carefree night with good friends. I suggest an old fashioned sleepover, just like we use to do as kids. Gather up the girlfriends and host a night in pj’s and sweats. Order pizzas,…

This isn’t a story about royalty, or a fairytale. It is a story about friendship, the boundaries of friendship, and conflict resolution. I promise it has a happy ending.

Okay, so I encourage the importance of a partnership between doctors and patients. I figure if we can talk to our doctors, he'll know better what's going on with us and we'll better understand what he wants from us. We'll also be able to work together if we have all kinds of other ideas we're thinking of trying that he may not suggest- like using olive oil for that dry scalp instead of a medicated shampoo.
But could this closeness hurt the doctor? Go with me for a second.…Continue

The last couple of days have been really hard for me. Hunter’s fit throwing is becoming more intense and we really never know when she will explode or if she will slip a knife off the counter and use it. Colby and I know what we need to do to help her, but it is a small comfort after nights filled with tantrums.
We also got a puppy. Indigo is a beautiful, energy filled, ball of fur, but she is a smart little Aussie left at home with me all day. I’ve never had a puppy before.…
