I've talked before about how my brain is compartmentalized. I have a hard time moving between work and family life without a transition period in between (which is why I've been able to make my peace with traffic).…Continue

Giving birth, whether naturally or by C-section, takes a toll on a woman’s body and sometimes her mind. Having to go back to work within weeks or 3 months of giving birth does not allow a family the time to adapt and bond with their new addition. Unfortunately, in the United States returning to work within 3 months of having a child is the norm and for most families a must. Other families run into the hard situation where both parent’s need to work to support the family, but child care costs…Continue

In my life right now, I have two very active toddlers and a 6 month old puppy who is already 50+ lbs. Jason and I have been trying to get out of debt, off and on for the last 3 1/2 years. Of course things happen and every now and then, we go backwards. Right now we are right back in it and working hard. He has been really great trying to pick up any extra shift that comes available to him. As you all know, I stay at home and don't have an income that will help us. If we really want…Continue

We are all familiar with the phrase Grave Robber, a crime in which an individual raids a tomb to steal artifacts or personal effects from the deceased. Just to clarify that is a crime in which a soul that has passed on is robbed of material thing. However, when an individual steals the joy, a very important component of mental health, from another soul no crime is committed but the repercussions to the victim are far more damaging.

It usually happens on a Friday or a Monday. I'll be in the office, waiting for my email program to start, and they will start to filter in: The Working From Home messages.
One or two emails that come in with the WFH subject line are common enough: Sick children, sick adult, work being done at the house and…

In one 24 hour period, I spend approximately 4 of those hours breastfeeding or pumping. That is 28 hours a week- practically a part time job! One day, while using my computer to watch So You Think You Can Dance as I fed my son, I decided to find something better to do with my hours than watch every reality TV show possible.
I started researching sites that would allow me to make money during those 28 hours a…

A loan can at times be frustrating. It is even worst when you are doubling as mummy and daddy. You wonder whether to focus on upbringing your kids or servicing that loan. The pressure that comes with it is intense. Single mothers bear the hardest of it all when it comes to loan repayment. However, re-planning your financial schemes can offset this burden.…Continue

This is sooo very cool. I've been doing it since January for Purina, Dollar General, Oil of Olay, NutriSystem, Samsung, Crest and Braun. Why not get paid for something you like to do, right? The joy is you get to do it from the comfort of your own home too.
I've been working with IZEA since the beginning of January advertising and have been paid already for the brand names I mentioned above to post and tweet. All I have to do is bid on their job and I just paid $5.00 up front to…Continue

Every weekend my kids want to have company come over. I'm always reminding them that I don't have a built in card in my brain that automatically stores the contact information for everyone I meet, and neither do they, so they need to physically exchange numbers with their friends. Do they? No, but every weekend we seem to have…Continue

Have you ever slipped and said a tacky word in front of your child? I know that I am guilty of this of accidentally saying something I will regret later or said something that wasn't appropriate for my children to hear. I have always tried to be aware and watch what I say and do in front of them. I want to make sure that my kids aren't picking up bad habits. Believe it or…Continue

Last fall we decided to take my youngest son out of daycare so that he could stay at home with me during the day. At first I was nervous because I wasn’t sure how I was going to care for him during the day. I am thankful that he has started learning how to play independently and can entertain himself for a few minutes. During those first several weeks, I was so excited and wanted to continue teaching him the things that he was currently learning in daycare. Things changed…Continue

As your kids are heading back to school and stuffing their backpack full of school supplies and books, it is important for parents to make sure that their backpack isn’t too heavy. Did you know that most children carry their backpack improperly? Misusing a backpack and wearing it improperly can lead to long-term health problems or injuries.…Continue

Welcome to my page! Thank you for stopping by Uplifting Families. I wanted to take the time and thank all of those people that have made Uplifting Families successful. Without your love and support, my blog wouldn’t be where it is today. I started blogging in November of 2011, shortly after my youngest son was born, because I wanted to help other mother’s…Continue
