When Sandy gives you rain...

Hurricane Sandy left us cold and wet on Halloween. Normally we would hold Trunk or Treat in our church parking lot but the storm made us make some changes to our tradition.  Because we have a large lobby and gym, our leader - Fred - decided we would be holding what…

Zoo Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger Hunt!

To make the trip more fun, Kiley invited her friend Greydi and I planned out a scavenger hunt. The girls had a list of things to find and then get a picture of it.  They did very good and pretty much found it all!

This is the scavenger list I made and printed out for the girls.  We had so much fun at the zoo.  We were there for 5 hours and pretty much saw it all!  Below is a picture of the scavenger hunt…

Our No-Media Family Vacation (Complete with campfire recipe!)

Last week, we took our official annual family camping trip. Each summer, we take one trip to a California State Park that I deem “official”because it is with kids and without cell phones, laptops, or iPods. The only media we allow are cameras and Kindles (for capturing memories, and because we can keep all our books in one place). What I discovered on this trip was that three days of no Facebook updates, no check-ins, no Tweets and no notifications can actually be…

Back To School - Bento Lunchbox

Back To School Shopping And The Bento Lunchbox!

It's about that time again... Back to school shopping has officially begun. Of course, one of the first things my daughter's are interested in looking for are a new backpack and lunchbox. After hearing about the Bento Box over and over again from friends and the media, I decided to find out what the hype was all…

Just Singin' in the Rain...

One of the best parts of being a mommy is being able to relive my favorite childhood moments AGAIN, only in the company of my daughter and husband.

Yesterday, after seemingly eons of hot days that have scorched our lawn grass into a bed of straw, the skies became super thick…

Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

Wooo! Lucas and I are home after seven days in the Sunshine State.  We had such a great time, and seeing my mom again was like surfacing for air.  It had been too long.  It will always be too long. …

10 Fun Summer Activities to Enjoy with Your Kids in NC

If your kids aren't headed off to summer camp this year, you might be stumped as to what to possibly do to keep them entertained and keep you sane. And unfortunately where I live, fun, cultural and educational activities are rare jewels, so we typically have to venture off at least an hour to enjoy ourselves. But don't be discouraged if you live in Small Town, NC like me; North Carolina is chock full of other destinations that are well worth the travel time. I've…

I Want to be More of a Cougar

I Want to be More of a Cougar

Wait.. not *that* kind of a cougar!

My son's school's mascot is a Cougar, and today was Cougar Day, basically a field day for the kids.  Lucas acted up at every opportunity: running onto the field during crab soccer, stealing hula hoops from the girls, throwing tantrums when I picked him…

A Slice of Summer

A Slice of Summer

Once again, it's raining on Monday morning, but I don't even care because we had such a great weekend!    Just a warning to you, my friendly reader, this is a long post!  I'll try to break it up with lots of pictures though.

Matt had a field trip on Friday to a local nursery, and then…

Opening Day of Fun Season

Check it out here

Yesterday was gorgeous!  Finally I had a day at home with perfect weather.  I decided that as soon as Matt came home from school I would take them both to the playground.  There are several playgrounds within walking distance of our apartment and the closest one got new equipment that I hadn't seen yet.  Eric had taken them on one of those freakishly nice…

"Hunt"ing for Camp Runamuk fun!

Last Friday was the last day of Camp Runamuk (the affectionate name we call life at my house when the kids are off school and fun is involved) and I decided to host the First Annual Dugdale Trifecta Easter Egg Hunt.

Here’s what you get when you have 4 mommies + 14 kids + 225 eggs + 12 tons of sugar =

1)      Sometimes even the snails want some chocolate!  The eggs had been out for literally 10 minutes, and we had an attempted robber!
2)      If…

"How many of these kids are actually yours?!"

. . . was the question from the Dish Network installer at my house today as we were entertaining 14 yes, I said FOURTEEN, children.

Today we had Camp Runamuk, Day 2 – Gettin’ Dirty.  We made “mud” cupcakes, bird houses, paper butterflies and mommy made a sad attempt at a cardboard boomerang . . .

. . . and here’s what we learned:

1)      Bribing the children with Fun Dip for breakfast will ensure that they get their rooms clean in no…
