If you are the one bringing home the literal bread in your household then you have seen them, the bright eyed, loom band wearing, merit badge earning Girl Scouts and Brownies outside your supermarket doors selling those cookies. Those cookies, the ones that can’t help but bring back my memories of selling those rectangular boxes while wearing knee high socks and a brown smock, offering my best seven year old sales pitch to unsuspecting supermarket customers, and as you know…Continue
Many parents wonder when is the perfect time to transition their baby from their crib into a toddler bed or regular bed. As a mom, I can’t give you a perfect answer because each child is different and is ready to move into a regular bed at different ages. You know your child best and can gauge when you…Continue

L's friend R had her 5th birthday today. Both girls were invited to the party. Before the party took SB out to sell her girl scout cookies. Sold 6 boxes in an hour. Not too good of a sales day for a Saturday. Last house we stopped at ended up being a girl scout leader. We were informed in polite terms that we were trespassing on another's territory. To my way of thinking if a girl hasn't gone out and sold in her territory halfway through the cookie sale then watch out. …Continue

Busy, crazy, fun, stressful, exhausting, exciting, relaxing. That sums up these past three weeks. We've been on the go with a teething baby and that has been an adventure. I'm not quite sure how molars are supposed to work, but it'd be nice to have a month in between each of Isla's THREE new molars. She's developed a habit of giving me "The Look", which I have been giving my mother for years. Trying to get this girl to smile or eat is hard work!!…

I have 3 kids which means in our time and like everyone else, we’ve sold a lot of crap. We’ve sold cookie dough, pizza making kits, wrapping paper, God awful things they considered “gifts”, magazine subscriptions and of course, Girl Scout cookies. We are VERY lucky that the elementary school we’re at now doesn’t participate in item sales – they just ask us for pledges and donations at the beginning of the year. And then nickel and dime us the rest of the year, but that’s a different…Continue

It’s a hard thing to want something, and I mean really want something, with all of your heart, and every bit of your being. So much so you can barely contain the elation in your voice when you talk about it, nor the flutter in your belly attesting to both extremes of excitement and apprehension. You find yourself struggling to keep the knot in your throat from rising just thinking about it, dreaming on it.
Yup, desire can do that to you.
Twenty years of…

My daughter turned 9 last week. This is the child who lives and breathes all things pink and all things Barbie.
As I decorated the house for her upcoming birthday party, she came up to me and announced that she had something very important to tell me. I stopped taping pink and purple balloons to the fireplace and sat down to listen to her. I looked into the serious brown eyes of my daughter as she announced that this would be her last single digit birthday. Single digit? Who…Continue

She wants to see things.
Her hungry eyes look around searching for life.
She wants to see the world she has never seen before;
the hands she will shake;
the sea she wil swim in;
the ice creams she will eat and will make her clothes dirty;
the dogs she will cuddle.
She wants to see the countries…Continue

Once upon a time,
not so long ago,
a little Roman princess was born in a small family with two dogs and a lot closets full of high heels shoes.
She was kind of happy when she found out that her brand new family was a real mess.
They had a lot to learn about her.
So did she about them, anyway.
