Making Time For You

One of the biggest challenges I face as a mom is not having enough time to myself and for myself. Even right now as I am trying to write this, I have both kids climbing all over me. Sometimes it can definitely be overwhelming. For me, I NEED time alone. I guess that goes with being introverted though. I find it hard to put myself first, because it seems selfish to me. When other things need to get done around the house or the kids need more time and attention than normal, I find that I put…

রাগারাগি করছি ছেলের সাথে (Showing anger with my son)

I should be happy to see my son working…

Ever have the feeling of "Holy moly everything is too much" the sad thing is my plate isn't even full, I just don't handle things all that well. I can have one thing to do andI feel as if it's the end of the world. #sissy.

না বুঝেই খুশি হয়ে যাই (Became happy without knowing the truth)

[English version has given below]

There is now a happiness equation

Whenever I used to ask my mother what she wanted for a birthday or Christmas, she would always answer the same thing: "Nothing." If pressed, she would tell me that all she wanted was for us to be happy.

It's the sort of non-answer that a lot of Moms give. Yes, parents want their children to be happy,…

The July 2014 Parenting Tip: SMILE!

This month’s parenting tip is super simple!  All you have to do is smile!  Yep, that’s right…SMILE!  It’s pretty amazing how such a simple facial expression can change you and those around you, including your children.

Would you rather be around someone who is always smiling or constantly frowning?  Which person would create a better atmosphere for those around him/her?  I will…

Irish Soda Bread-- Brooklyn Style!

Some years ago, the city of Chicago adopted me.

I grew up in a place where I could see the World Trade Centers from my attic, where Puerto Rican cabbies spoke Yiddish, and where everyone thought Philadelphia was in the Midwest.

But when I moved to Chicago the day after my honeymoon, Sandburg’s “stormy, husky, brawling” city welcomed me with broad shoulders and open arms, and I fell in love with my adoptive city.  Put celery salt on my Vienna Beef, make my pizza like a cheese…

Prescription for Happy

While being happy is objective and different things will work for everyone, I wanted to take a few moments to give you some ideas of things to do (or not do!) to live a little bit happier life.

1.  Be honest.  If you want something, say something.  Don’t expect others to know what you desire or need.  Be firm, but honest.  People love to help others.  Ask for what you want.

2.  Do nothing.  Take some time every day to do nothing.  If you are constantly thinking about other…

Happy 2nd Birthday to My Baby Boy!

Wow, I can’t believe it has been two years since I was impatiently awaiting for you to arrive.  I remember when I was on my way to my final doctors appointment, I didn’t know that it would be my final visit as a pregnant mom. I had a previous history of low amniotic fluid during my previous pregnancy and she order the ultrasound to ensure that I still had enough fluid…

Happy Mother’s Day – Please Come Share What You Love About Being A Mom?

I remember when I was pregnant with my very first baby in 1996 and on Mother’s Day that year, it dawned on me that I was going to be a mom later than year.  I was excited, scared, and nervous at the same time.  If you are a mom, I am sure that you can relate to all of those feelings.  It is scary to think that you will be responsible for a tiny human being and that you have…

Love Yourself - Happy You, Happy Family

I speak with many women on a daily basis. Women who do amazing and incredible things. They are bloggers, business owners, mothers, executives, teachers, marketers, librarians, just all kinds of women from all walks of life. They are so different in so many ways, yet at the same time, they have so much in common. One thing they all recognize is the need to start treating themselves as nicely as they treat others.…

I've never been happier to "pay up"

So how many times have you made a deal with your kids, like "if you do ____ for ____ days, you can have a ____"? And you make the deal knowing very well that your kid would never do ____ for ___ days straight? Well, I made one of those deals, and I had to pay up, and I've never been happier.

What an Adventure...

Let me just start by saying, whoever thought that taking a road trip when your 8 months pregnant… wait, no.  I should really start by saying how sweet it was that my hubby took the time to plan a little family getaway after the holidays.  In all honesty, it was an awesome idea; one I would normally love if I weren’t 8 months pregnant with a God awful back problem.  I knew this would be quite an adventure as it was, taking 2 toddlers and a psycho dog to the mountains.  Now…

Serene Sunday - Happy Hour - A Piece of Carrot Cake

Serene Sunday - for me, serenity can be found in a slice of carrot cake.

Each Sunday throughout the month of September I will be exploring ways to find serenity in one hour or less. I have found that many times the time spent in serenity is sometimes short. This means the trick is to find something that…
