Transitioning Mom: Where is my Epidural Now?

They warn you about the pain of childbirth. They even express all the different means for managing said pain and in such depth that there are literally tons of books written on the topic! Ways to manage the pain often include Lamaze, water therapy, epidural, hypnosis, etc. I opted for hypnosis when this little lady graced us with her presence.…

Keepin' it real.

2015-08-10 17.40.50 So there I was, endlessly rocking my 2 month old son, praying to God that he would finally stop fighting his long overdue nap, and fall asleep for more than 20 minutes. My 2 year old daughter is at the table, flinging her now cold oatmeal on to the floor and walls. I couldn't even yell at this point. Both kids have been up since 5:45am today, and YES, that is extremely early for us over here, especially when we have what seems like 20 more hours of sunlight to conquer. In that…

Why I am a Bad Catholic

The other day I found myself in a heated discussion and I slipped up and said a four letter word, and it wasn’t love! To which the other person replied, “What a good Catholic!” It was meant as a jamb, said sarcastically, a way to get a rise out of me. And let me tell you, it worked! I continued to yell in frustration, I can’t even remember what I said but I needed to get the rage out… I was drunk with rage. I was in a bad state. I wasn’t being a good Catholic.  Then…

Hard Conversations: Discussing Death with a Child

Every once in awhile something happens with us, and I’m torn about writing it. As a blogger, I don’t want my blog to necessarily come off as doom and gloom, but these things do come up. So bear with me as I get this off my chest. Perhaps it will help another parent out there.

Sunday night, Alex asked if I would snuggle with him in bed. I said fine, as the boys had Monday off from school. I’m not as strict about sleep on…

These days, the books children's authors write must compete with so many distractions - computers, computer games, and fast action name only a few. And many parents both work, and aren't home after school to make sure TV doesn't become a mind-numbing habit. Yet the love of reading is a… Continue

A Song in The Struggle

Have you ever noticed the quiet hand of God in your life? I have. Like you, trouble doesn’t always pass me by, but I’ve learned to look for his hand of protection and comfort during my struggles.

An Optimistic Look

I wanted to share this dream that my friend Bethany had a couple of years ago. It seems like a lot of people I know and love are going through some really hard times right now. And this story keeps coming to mind. It has meant so much to me time and time again, and I hold on to the image every time life gets hard.…
