I'm hesitant to feed my family genetically engineered food (GMO), and now I have even more reason to avoid that kind of food engineered in a lab, some of it containing built-in pesticides like Roundup.
Now to today’s big news: Massive mammary tumors, kidney and liver damage, and other serious problems were found in rats that were fed GMO foods according to the… Continue

Healthy Child Healthy World
, who I blog for because they educate parents to protect children from harmful chemicals, just informed me that a new scientific study linking autism to environmental exposures has rocked the pediatric health care community
. That’s important information I want to pass on to you. Maybe your family is impacted by autism, or maybe this information can help prevent future cases of autism.

Yep, after a lot of research I figured out the best, and actually health-beneficial, sweetener to use: Xylitol. I'm comparing all the sweeteners and tell you the many health benefits of it here:

I received an alarming e-mail from a friend about another mom’s little daughter who got very sick and was hospitalized after ingesting hand sanitizer.
This is not the first time I have heard about this, and I want to urge everyone — parents, grandparents, and caretakers — to be very careful with these products or not to used them anymore! Read more about safe, effective… Continue

I was given the recipe of all recipes to make super fast, easy bread, and I can’t wait to share it. This bread costs almost nothing, it’s fun to bake, and so much healthier than the store-bought bread spiked with high-fructose syrup.
Forget expensive bread machines: all you need is flour, rapid rise yeast, water, salt, olive oil, and voila — bread!

After my first post about this, and many inquiries about how things are going, I wanted to finally give you an update on our kinder, more vegetarian diet. We started changing things in our kitchen mostly because Don got sick with some kind of inflammatory illness five months ago, and since he got no diagnosis or pain relief from conventional medicine, he needed to try something… Continue

Are you pregnant and want a natural birth? Then you'll want to read this!
My next New York City Moms blog post is up and running! It’s called Natural Birth, Duggar Style. This article is generate some interesting comments (and heated
What do you think, do you feel — like me — that more
women could achieve a natural birth if they had educated themselves more about how the hospital is set up to push you into C-sections and believed more strongly in their ability to… Continue

...After we stopped in town to get the mail, my sister-in-law and three of her kids came over for the afternoon. Don and Maria wanted to watch the movie “Food Inc." I decided to entertain the kids with making cupcakes.
I had just bought this muffin-making kit for a dollar on sale yesterday, thinking it would come in handy one day. Reading the ingredients made me shudder . . . Let’s just say making these was more fun than eating them — not even the kids ate much of… Continue

When I heard about the World Breastfeeding Challenge, scheduled for October 3, I immediately knew I wanted to go. I’m up for a challenge! All over the world mothers would unite and latch on their children at the same time — what a great idea to promote breastfeeding! So Landon and I drove to the White Plains, New York, location, which was Full Circle Family Care. I told him there would be a lot of babies, and since he loves babies, he was all exited.
I was proudly sporting my “Yes,… Continue

I promised you the story and the pictures of opening the packaging of a new toy for Landon. Don bought him this noisy backhoe that came in the most ridiculous packaging I have ever seen. It was tied down by tiny screws, of all things, and it took us 10 minutes to open it! We were fuming and poor Landon had to be so patient. After we finally got it open, I took care of the noise by taking out the batteries right away, there was no way I was going… Continue

What a great day! (Except for the black ant invasion that greeted me this morning in the kitchen, ugh… Do you think 8 traps will do the trick, fast?) I got so much done, it’s beautiful outside, I had a massage . . .
I made a phone call, finally ordered some new contact lenses, and paid some bills this morning, so I got that out of the way. After playing with the babysitter for two hours, Landon took an extended nap (with the help of more… Continue

I am breastfeeding a 2 ½-year-old toddler, and I have no problem doing it in public. In fact, I am so proud and glad that I am still breastfeeding that I have a breastfeeding counter on the bottom of my blog page! You would expect strangers to give me looks, but I actually have to justify my choice to friends and family more and more lately.
Why do I still breastfeed? Because Landon still wants to and asks for it, I love the bond we have through it and the convenience — and most… Continue

Things are kind of crazy around here. Don is sick with aches and a cough and a headache, so I am trying to get him better, emphasis on trying
because he doesn’t want to take anything. Why do men have to be so difficult when they have a cold? Take two Advil and some cough medicine already instead of groaning so much! I think he’ll live…
And then I got a message today that the deadline for my latest proofreading project—the most tedious one I have worked on in a long time—got… Continue

We got a package two days ago that Landon (and I!) could not wait to open. We received two soft plush toys from the My Natural Toy line
. They are made by Hosung, the makers of miYim Organic toys
, a Brooklyn-based company that created these and many other cute, cuddly characters out of organic, environmentally friendly materials.
The frog,… Continue

After reading an article about the mountain of toys our children all amass, I was inspired to write an article about how I am losing the fight with noisy toys in my home! I thought they were just annoying, but after I researched this topic a little bit, I found that they can pose hearing risks for our children!
