Non-Toy Ideas for Gifts

Every year I say the same thing, "don't overdo it, Krystal!". What do I end up doing? You guessed it. Don't we all though? You're walking through the store and those little voices go off in your head as you near the toy aisle of just how much this would make your daughter light up. Or how much fun your son would have building this with his dad. The list goes on. We're always finding ways to justify overdoing it for our kids. And why not? They're our kids! Non-Toy gift ideas for the kids this holiday season. Treat the family to something more than just something to play with at home and get everyone involved. Since we want to always…

Busch Gardens - Christmas Town Experience

This would be our second visit to Busch Gardens this year, and I was excited because it's "Christmas Town" time! According to the weather forecast, there was only a 10% chance of rain, so I knew that meant 90% chance of rain. I was happy when we arrived because there was only a drizzle off and on...but that changed around mid day.

We arrived at…

Think I Found My Solemate

I love wearing ridiculously high heels.  You know, the kind that make you cringe in anguish with each step taken after a short while of wear.  Regrettably, as I age, my threshold because shorter and shorter.

The pain is never a deterrent for me.  Nope, I suffer willingly. I ignore the toe-crushing sensations and the scorching agony that begins in the balls of my feet and shoots up my calves. I suck it up. At barely 5'3, I NEED the shoes. They give me a commanding presence.…

The Joy of Mother's Day Through The Eyes of a Thirty-Something Mum

Mother's day comes with many happy moments, but the most heart-warming part of the holidays always seems to be the opening of the presents. Oh well, preparation and receiving presents has their good sides, too, but let's face it, all the thrill around the whole arrangement is not to the taste of everyone. In fact, I am one of the people who actually likes being involved in planning, but there is nothing I enjoy more than a warm cup of milk & cocoa near the fireplace with sweet…

Everglades Holiday Park Experience (Home of the Gator Boys!)

I was as excited as my husband and kids, anticipating this trip. When we got to the park, everything went smoothly. We picked up our tickets and went to the covered area waiting for our ticket number to be called for the airboat tour. There were a lot of people there, but the wait for the airboat tour was only about 10 minutes.

I know from seeing…

Let's learn something: Valentine's Day Monsters are fun

When I was little, every holiday had a mascot. There were the usual suspects (Santa, Easter Bunny), and then there were the ones my mom made up. Like the one for Valentine's Day.…

Looking Forward

I cannot be the only one…who feels like they have been wrapping (and unwrapping…pun intended) this past week up for days now.  A holiday in the middle of the week, mixed with cookies and cocktails, can throw a Mama off her game.  I have offered reflections of this Christmas, our attempt to find the perfect balance in the right…

Its Said and Its Done

I cannot be the only one…who is more than a little relieved that all the salutations of seasons greetings have been said, all the festive meals have been eaten, and all the wrappings have been unwrapped for this years Christmas.  Now that the season has been said and done it is time for us to review, recap, and recite some of the holiday happenings.

First, allow me to start with the gifts not purchased from the multitude…

Thank you notes - even if you are doing them, you're doing them wrong

My mom taught me to write thank you notes (thanks, Mom!), because we are civilized, polite people who have respect for our loved ones and an overall fondness for the complex social cues found in Jane Austen novels.

She gave me the basic formula when I was little:

Thank person for…

A Christmas Interview with Sonny Boy

I cannot be the only who…doesn’t really have much to do on Christmas Eve, thankfully my mom still puts together the big family shindig, so we usually spend the morning relaxing.  With all this unusual spare time, I decided to conduct an interview with the fantastic Mr. Sonny Boy, to learn his five year-old thoughts on what is happening with Santa now that he has officially started his magical trip around the world.

Me: What do you…

Ask any pregnant woman and she will tell you that now she’s expecting what once smelled delicious  - like roasting coffee beans for example, has suddenly become the one smell that induces an overwhelming feeling of nausea. For some women the pregnant nose goes into smell overdrive with incredible detection ability, in fact increased smell sensitivity can save lives. Just ask your local gas company – pregnant…

Black Friday – it’s Not Just About Fashion

Fashion, eh? It comes and goes, then comes back around again, at once fleeting and eternal. A style is in one month and then is never heard of again – until it is heard of again, of course.

The quest for fashionable clothes never ends; it’s just that what is in vogue is always changing.…
