Parenting Standards… Lowered. | Anna Lane on MomCave LIVE

Dear Parents I Used to Nanny For,

Twenty years, twenty pounds, and a marriage and two kids ago, I was your nanny. And I judged you. My parenting standards were based on unrealistic expectations. I knew nothing of the shit storm that is parenting. While I made bewildered mental notes about the state of your home, the behavior of your children, and your fashion choices, you were keeping actual human beings alive. I apologize.

I have seen the light. And so has Anna Lane, who…

Potty Training your Husband

This is not a “How to” guide.  This is a “Help me” plea.

My handsome baby boy is 13 months old and I am already thinking about how I am going to potty train him.  However, one obstacle I have to overcome before I potty-train my baby, is potty-training my husband.  I don’t know if he is too lazy to lift the seat, or if he is afraid that he would never hear the end of it if he forgets to put it down afterwards, but my hubby has a new habit of not lifting the seat when he pees.

On…

For most, neither option presents as palatable, but it need not be this way. There are answers and solutions for depressed housewives, and for most of us, the solutions are closer than we think.…

Becoming Full Time Housewife/Mother: The Transition

A couple months ago, I have finally started living the role that I thought would not be playing so soon – a full time staying-at-home-wife (and soon-to-be Mom, for the time being). I knew that this phase will eventually happen to me but I thought it would come much later.

Another life transition for me.
A little story about my dream

When I was younger, I have never envisaged the likelihood of assuming housewife title in my adult…

All Kinds of Wrong - Vintage Folger's Commercial Circa 1950's

Welcome to the first installment of "All Kinds of Wrong" on the Multiple Mayhem Mamma blog.

You may have surmised by now that I'm somewhat sarcastic and have low tolerance for nonsense. As well, I have a penchant for all things referencing to the past, my youth and prior as well.

The combination of these two facts has resulted in something that I've wanted to do for a long time: analyze vintage television. Commercials and TV shows from bygone eras have both…

Glaring Through Pea-Green Colored Glasses

My six-year-old daughter came home from school, threw her backpack on the couch and blurted out, “We talked about what we wanted to be when we grow up.”

“Oh, yeah? What did you decide?” I asked going through a mental list of all the possible choices that would eventually lead to her unprecedented success.

“I want to be a mom like you.” My heart sank into my stomach. At a moment…

Unrealistic Reality TV

The obsession with my newly found identity crisis led me to believe that the labels put on SAHM’s strictly came from the 50’s and 60’s Susie Homemaker persona; however, the eruption of shows like The Real Housewives of… (pick a city, any city) has 21st century housewifery represented as gossiping cats with faux fur who claw at each other at social events. This new 21st century housewife has no responsibilities except to keep a high social standing and…

Just Another Tuesday

This is the beginning, the very first post, of One Click Away, a story about a woman who is turning 40, dreams of going deeper and chooses a life most of us don't have the guts to lead. It's a sexy online opera that updates weekdays - fun, familiar and at times, dark and steamy. Just like all of us. Hope you will tune in....

Rebel With(out) a Cause?

I am so not perfect. Um...just in case any of you thought otherwise.

You see, I have this rebelliousness issue. Ask my mom. Ask my best friends. Especially ask my husband.

It's mostly that I tend to rebel against the status quo. I can't stand "typical," and I strive to be anything but. I just always have. And I think it would take years of deep (costly) therapy to find the underlying reasons why.

I also hate being told how to be, what to do, and how things… Continue
