Thankful Thursday: Well Again

I cannot be the only one…who has been lucky enough to have made it six years without a cold or flu hitting all the members of our house at one time, that is until the last three days.  Fortunately, this dastardly bug only knocked the Sonny Boy and I out, but it definitely makes for a trying experience when your child and yourself are both sick at the same time.…

Meet Zack – He Didn’t Let A Mental Illness Keep Him From Achieving His Dreams

One evening I was hanging out on Twitter and started talking to Zack about my toddler’s love for coloring and drawing.  After talking to Zack, he shared with me his story about “Taking Care of Business – Mental Illness is Not a Deterrent“.  At the age of 16, Zack is working on becoming an entrepreneur and using his gifts and talents to make…

Book Review: Call Me Tuesday, by Leigh Byrne

A mother suffering from mental illness.

A little sweet girl who wants nothing more than her mother’s love.

Family members who turn their backs to the blatant horror that is staring them in the face.

Call Me Tuesday was a tough book to read. Based on true events, it is a fictionalized story of what really happened to author Leigh Byrne while…

By Susan Keats, Contributor &  Seize-the-Day Propagandist

I am running down the hall. In the living room there is a party going on and women are dancing to the music. I’m nervous. Very very nervous. One of the women calls to me. Suuuusaaaaan. Its yooooouuurr turrrrnnn! She has a feather boa in her hands and she wants me to shimmy my way into the center of the circle and…

My Afterlife Series - Thinking of You

By Susan Keats, Contributor &  Seize-the-Day Propagandist

An old friend of mine recently chopped her finger off.

It wasn’t intentional and it wasn’t her whole finger, but it was a nice chunk. She was trimming plants in her garden and trimmed her thumb right off along with a stem. Ugh! It must have been awful!

This happened while I…

Silver Lining

By Susan Keats, Contributor &  Seize-the-Day Propagandist

It was a dark and stormy night.

No it wasn’t. It was a fine night as far as the weather goes, but as we sat our two daughters down in the living room to tell them that I had breast cancer, the storm raging inside my brain was pretty harrowing. I attempted a brave face while my husband told the…

Adventures in Applesauce

My kids are sick. Jenna is coming ‘round the bend and should be ready for school tomorrow but Ian and Kara are toast. Kara’s got strep and Ian has a stomach bug…

When I went all the way to Spokane to go grocery shopping there was a man selling apples on the side of the road in the snow. I bought organic pink ladies for $.61 a pound.YUM! I ended up buying 13 pounds. That’s a lot of apples. With my sick kids I decided to make scratch applesauce.

I googled and googled and came up…

Tears Don't Describe

I wanted to share something with you today that our family has been dealing with for the past year and a half. Ever since I started Izzy on solids we've had a love/hate relationship with the potty. Initially, it was just constipation but now it's developed into a psychological problem. She was so afraid of it hurting that she started holding in her poop as long as she could. It just made she problem worse because by the time she would finally poop it was hard as a rock. Continue

Happy Heart

It's been almost a year and a half since I became a stay at home mom.  We've had to sacrifice a few things for us to be able to afford living on one income.  In my opinion, it has all been worth it.  Today for example, was one of those days.  Continue

that light at the end of the tunnel...it may be just a train

My GP said this to me this morning and it's not yet certain whether she is extremely insightful or some type of witch doctor that cursed me because the rest of the day so far has confirmed that the light everyone refers to at the end of the proverbial tunnel is in fact a train about to run us down.…

Mental Illness

Sometimes waking up in the morning to the stories you hear on the news every day is not really the way to wake up. Wednesday morning I woke up to the story of the 25 year old mom of four who drove her car into the Hudson River and I was horrified. I imaged the terror and the memories this poor ten year old boy would have for the rest of his life. And… Continue

We've got the bug!!! :(

....Knock on wood. Actually J myster has the bug! Just when I feel like it will plague me, I suddenly feel better. Thursday afternoon, the little girl I watch just started throwing up. Thankfully her dad was on his way. I wasn't sure if it was a bug or possibly something she ate, until J started throwing up a half hour after we put him to bed. It turns out C and J got this little bug from the baby I watch. …

When is it NOT Fibro???

If you have Fibromyalgia or Chronic Pain, it becomes very difficult to tell symptoms apart from other more serious illnesses!

In this blog post, I talk about 2 friends who both have Fibro but with very different approaches to SECONDARY symptoms & illnesses that often accompany Fibromyalgia.

Also, take a look at the extensive "medical" list of known symptoms. Please…

Working Out a Storm

Today I took my first steps inside a gym (to actually use the equipment rather then the joining process or to have a look around) for a loooooooooooooooooong time. The last time I worked out in one was when I lived in London and I used to go to a Government run gym in Swiss Cottage, North London maybe 8 years ago or so! Blimey! Where do the years go?!

'The Lawyer' and I both became members of a gym company here aptly (and laughingly) called…

My Inspiration,My hero,My Julie

*my husbands account*

We are looking after my mother and father this weekend due to extensive modernisation work being carried out on their house. The work is getting my mother down because father keeps asking when the work will be completed ( Alzheimer sufferer ) and it's only week one of five, don't know how she will cope with another four weeks of it. I'm trying to plan some way around this problem because I can see what it's…

Yep, it’s @$#*%! Friday again…where DOES the time go??!! And even though you know that I know that you know that I know that right about here is where I’ll throw some lame ass excuse about how crazy busy my week has been, I’ll say it anyways, even though it goes without saying by now, because you know that I know that you know that I know that I am ALWAYS crazy busy…thus the name…

Motherhood in Overdrive Part Deux

Continuation from yesterday's posting (see post immediately below this one): And Now . . . The Rest of the Story (RIP, Mr. Harvey)

I left the computer for (what was intended to be) a brief moment of comforting one of the twins while he was paying homage to the Great White Porcelin God. However, in the midst of rubbing his back and wiping his face as he hurled projectile masses of unknown constituents into the depths of clear blue waters, the phone rang. I let it go to voicemail,… Continue
