Our Next Leg - Weeks 9-11

Hello MBC'ers!  My daughter, Dylan, suffered a severe asthma attack and seizures this Mother's Day (May 13th).  She was without oxygen for quite some time and now is battling brain damage.  The focus of my blog is now on the next leg of our journey....

These last few weeks have been rough.  Other words that come to mind to describe it are shitty, unbearable, exhausting and nerve-racking.  Dylan has been dealing with seizures and brainstorming (which means she had…

Trauma: How Derek Got Hit By A Car

It was a red minivan, actually.  We had just pulled into the driveway from picking Troy up from preschool.  There were several neighbor kids walking home from school across the street.  As all four of my kids and the two pups spilled out of our car, a couple of the kids asked if they could see the puppies.  Jason and I walked across the street with the pups.  I looked back towards the house and Derek and Troy had climbed the tree at the end of the driveway.  Everyone seemed so safe.…

Broke Butt Mountain

Misadventures in Motherhood:  Broke Butt Mountain

Most people have love-hate relationships with their bodies, and I'm no different—although it's not for the reasons one might think.  I don't hate the stretch marks that I bear as a result of having my children, and I don't get too upset over the venetian-blind…

Thumbs Up

The spring is progressing nicely.  We have managed to dodge the Toto-like weather, and my garden is planted and starting to grow.  The mixture of rain, humidity, and sunshine has contributed to my green thumb abilities.

Everything has come up except for the spinach and Swiss chard.  Well, a singular spinach plant has sprouted.  One.  I never had any luck last year, so I’m not holding out much hope for this year.  I’m not really sure if the Swiss chard is up yet, because I’ve never…

Ow. Owie. OUCH!

At approximately 11AM on Saturday morning, I was casually walking through the living room when I spotted Raelyn's Littlest Pet Shop comforter sprawled across the floor. As I normally do, I bent down to pick it up and deftly threw it on the couch as I straightened up. I put one foot forward to continue my "stroll" when I was met with easily the most immense pain I've ever felt that went shooting through my lower back. I was doubled over in pain and literally sweating from the pain by the time I… Continue

wishing for the parental do-over

When Jordan was first injured, I searched for reason in every corner of my life, of God’s promises, in every insignificance I could find. I said very often to my sister that if it were Jordan’s destiny to be nearly fatally injured by her babysitter and to live with permanent brain injury, then I was glad God chose me to take care of her because some mothers would abandon their newly imperfect babies to the oh well Dumpster.…

When the Certified Letter Comes I'm Going to Stamp Deceased on it and Return It

I did something stupid for which I am positive there are going to be repercussions. I knew I shouldn’t while I was in the middle of dialing. My heart was racing and that’s usually when I know. Wait. Don’t act now. I’m very familiar with this warning signal, and yet this time I couldn’t stop myself.

Dear Self, please try not to tell off people at doctors’ offices. It never ends well. Especially don’t tell someone off on their voicemail. Look what happened to Tiger Woods when he left a… Continue

The Panic Stricken Mom

I wrote this blog post yesterday and I thought it was important enough to share via other avenues. I'm not quite sure what to do about it though... if I link it, will you look at it? :D IF I copy and paste it, it won't have the "extras" in it.

So I guess I'll tell you about it, if it strikes your interest, please go visit the whole post at my Blog

I blogged about how as a mom, my confidence in my ability to assess my boys'… Continue
