How to Handle Biting in Young Children (By Stacy Hladek)

I recently spent an afternoon with a good friend, who has a toddler.  While we were talking about parenting she told me her son has started biting his baby brother.  My friend said nothing she or her husband had tried is working.  Her son bit another child at childcare this week for the first time

Biting is a behavior that many toddlers display at one time or another.  It can be something that makes the adults feel frustrated and helpless.  There is hope!

Whenever a child is…

Teaching Kids About Differences Using Eggs

I thought today was a fitting day to tell the story about one of my favorite school events. When Mackenzie was in the 2nd grade, her school held an event to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. They used  this event to show the kids that no matter how different we may be on the outside, on the inside we’re all the same.

That in itself is very nice, but…

Watch Top Documentary Films - For Free

I love my book club. It consists of twelve mothers, of all ages, each with very different taste in books, but we love our monthly get-togethers. We laugh, we share and we talk – A LOT!  Each year, we each sign up for a month to host the club. The host is responsible for choosing the book, hosting the event in her home and supplying food and drink for the evening. It is acknowledged…

Wise Up About Menopause - Watch Hot Flash Havoc

By Marjie Killeen, Contributor- Midlife Wisdom

Hot flashes. Night sweats. Sleeplessness. Mood swings. Anxiety. Memory loss. Low Libido. It’s enough to make a woman crazy!

Historically, menopausal women were considered that and worse. In the Middle Ages they were burned at the stake as witches; in the 1700′s they were institutionalized as lunatics. Even today, many women view the phase so…

It's Not Your Mama's Fault Part 2

Okay, so where were we? Oh, that's right...I left off right at the point where I was officially 'emancipated' at the age of 16. Whew. Heavy. Just sitting here recalling and writing this stuff takes me back. My teenage life had been a whirlwind of changes; from living in a house with 9 bedrooms and six bathrooms with a…

Ow. Owie. OUCH!

At approximately 11AM on Saturday morning, I was casually walking through the living room when I spotted Raelyn's Littlest Pet Shop comforter sprawled across the floor. As I normally do, I bent down to pick it up and deftly threw it on the couch as I straightened up. I put one foot forward to continue my "stroll" when I was met with easily the most immense pain I've ever felt that went shooting through my lower back. I was doubled over in pain and literally sweating from the pain by the time I… Continue
