Simple Needs

I'm finding that there are just two things- two simple things- that if I give my attention to, make the world of difference for me and my wee one- …

Transitioning

For nine years I spent most of my days surrounded by other people's children- teaching them to love to read and write (or at least not hate it). For nine years I desperately tried to balance my school room hat and my mama hat. Things were lost in the mix. Life was good, but always fast paced- too fast.

There were external things going on too- issues I could no longer overlook. After a year of deliberation, I left my job to stay at home, homeschool our preschool age daughter, and find…

The Ebb and Flow of Motherhood

These days, after being a full time working mom, I am home with my two slowly figuring out the balance in being home. These days I am a single mom while my husband takes time to finish research. While we are used to summers like this, there is always a learning curve. I have grand plans of all the things I can accomplish now that I'm not working- all the things that I wished I could do August through May. It's a tall order, and soon I figure out that it's too tall. These days I'm reminding…

Hold Fast to Dreams, Pursuit of Joy - Mom. Life. Love.

Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.

A poem by the great Langston Hughes.…

Moment by Moment

What follows is some serious soul-searching interspersed with cute pictures of my kids. Bear with me.

I feel ashamed to admit how often I lose my cool around my children.  In all honesty, not losing my cool at least once during the day is a rare exception. Not only do these kids know a great deal about how to push my buttons, but they are also extremely irrational. The combo of the two is a sure fire way to bring out what I call "Mean Mommy."…

Living Joyfully Everyday

By Jennifer Urezzio, Contributor – Spiritual Affairs

One of the “things” that prevents me from choosing to live joyfully each day is all the doubts and fears of what I’m supposed to be “doing” with my life.

Paid Full Price, But Worth Every Penny!

So my blog is always about getting stuff for free, almost free, or with a great discount. But not everything in life you need (or maybe want) is going to be free or discounted. So I thought it would be fun to do a post about those items that you actually paid full price for, but they were worth every penny!  I'm sure there are a few things in my life, but the most recent purchase was our new kitchen plates at christmas time!  We bought these at Target for $49.99 for a 16pc set (I bought 4 sets… Continue

Grief Has Its Own Timetable

Dear Moms,

After the death of someone we love our grief experience and overall healing has everything to do with our relationship to the deceased, the intensity and depth of the love we felt for them and our degree of faith in a hereafter.  In the immediate aftermath of a person's death, it's hard to breathe and everything hurts. We feel shattered, bewildered and frightened. Sometimes, however, grief shows us its own timetable and can be delayed or complicated.  I experienced a long… Continue

15 Signs You're Meant To Be

Original Posting at NewlyParents.com

love In a random stroll through the Internet today I came across this article at yourtango.com entitled, "15 Signs You're Meant To Be". After glancing through it I thought I would apply it to my husband and I to see if the results match what I think.

1.) You tell him things you don't tell anyone else.
